Is that Dutch vs French language "war" still going on in Belgium in 2020?unfortunately, the wild Walloon is extincted. The splitting of the atom, brought the Belgian government to ideas:
"If it's possible to split something as small as an atom, we could try to split our small country (somewhere on the border between France and The Netherlands)."
So they made two civilized reserves, one for the Walloons (French speaking natives) and one for the Flandrians (the Flemisch speaking natives (something like dutch but more generous).). To add some surrealism (Belgian invention) they threw in a community for the natives who felt like they were nor Walloon nor Flandrian and called it the Brussels district ( where they're still fighting over whitch language they will speak) When WWII ended some German speaking neo-natives where added and they got their own community.... But the real Belgians don't care about all this political B***S*** and as long we can drink our beers, mumble the national anthem ( we're proud about not knowing the words) and eat our fries together, you can't hear us complain....
Did I mention that complaining is our national sport?
So that's Belgium in a Nut-shell (pun intended) for the ones who're not familiar with our country.
Speaking of that: The Netherlands also has regional dialects. Listen to people from Friesland (the north), Limburg (the south) or De Achterhoek (the east) and it sounds like 3 languages.

Fries is indeed almost a mother tongue by itself. Looking way back it was more like Old English, enough for some scholars to put the two in a subgroup of West Germanic. Fries is therefore rather a tongue that became more like Dutch than a dialect of Dutch.
Holland is an area within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but the name is often given to the whole Kingdom. Belgium is south of The Netherlands. Along with Luxembourg, the two countries are known to us English as the Low Countries.

We call our country "Nederland" which (more or less) means The Netherlands, Holland is used as well.
There are 2 (out of 12 total) provinces called Noord Holland and Zuid Holland (North and South Holland).
Neder/nether. It's the same word said different. Eastern England has an are called South Holland and a town called Holland-on-Sea.

This goes very deep down well around when Belgium was occupied by Napoleon; French was the upper class language whereas Dutch was for the peasants. I wouldn't expect this to be solved any time soon.
Latin could solve the problem!

I went Amsterdam once for an epistemology conference. I loved it! My grandma was born in the Netherlands and I have a trunk in my living room that they used to move to Canada.
Anyway, great architecture and ham sandwiches in Amsterdam. Watch out for the bikes!

I'll have y'all know that Nederland is a little town in Texas. There's a few of the older residents who host the Windmill museum and actually still speak a Dutch dialect, or two. I was shocked to visit there several years ago with a couple of Netherlander business associates and hear them chattering away with a host! My associates were quite impressed. I was flabbergasted. I thought we were gonna get a taste of the ol' western USA. It is not far from the town of Orange, Texas, also of Dutch ancestry.
Both are a bit down east of the Germanic Hill Country in central Texas where many dialects have developed over the centuries. A wonderful area for residents and visitors alike.

Are we talking about a possible site for the 2022 World Combo Convention? It sounds like a nice place unlesss you get run over by a bike.
I've liked Amsterdam every time I've been there. One time I was in a Dutch friend's flat. Two English friends of his called in. The man looked at me and said 'I know you. I know you. I was in a band with you in Chelmsford.' The band had been 12 years earlier. I had left the are a year or two afterwards.
Yep, I like strange quirky things, including basses. So the Nordy Cat Bass speaks to me. Plus I'm interested in swapping my stock pickups in my Squier Affinity Jazz with his NJ4SV pups. Just to get rid of the hum when soloing one pup, but want to maintain the standard Jazz sound. But the pups are more than the whole bass was.
Looking at where Clinton and Muscatine are, it seems you and @mikeoso could easily visit one another once the pandemic is over.
