I get that! I don’t suppose they gave you the options of boot camp in Bainbridge or San Diego? Bainbridge wouldn’t have been a lot warmer, though. Was there even a boot camp in San Diego in 1964?

Saluting someone who can offer their life history in a paragraph and make the reader feel good afterward. Nicely done, Sir Rambler.
Double up on the salutes! My mom was in the Air Force right after WW2, my dad served in the Army at the same time, and my brother was in the Navy during the mid 70s. Respect and gratitude to all who have or are serving. The getting up at 0230 to shovel snow is a good indication of why I was never in the military.
Who is the YT acoustic guitar player? Some of us may want to check it out to see if we are similarly inspired.
So here's my method of madness, though I may have mentioned it here before. As much as I like playing along with my favorite tunes by the original artist, I've enjoyed, of late, selecting songs I wanna play anyway but finding an amateur who's recorded that song and posted it on YT. I convert it to an mp3 and then record over the song using my meager skills as a DIY engineer. Being there are dozens of versions of all our favorite songs on YouTube, it's just a matter of finding something you agree with and getting on with it.
Si in tribute to Leslie West who passed away a few weeks ago, and the fact I love most versions of "Theme for an Imaginary Western," written by Jack Bruce, I decided to find myself a good version in acoustic styling. There are literally zillions of these songs, you need to be patient and let your heart and soul do the searching.
This is one I found from a gentleman in Tennessee named Howlin' Alan. I liked his voice, the pacing of the song, and his recording of it was quite good. So I added a layer of Precision bass through my Ampeg SCR-DI pedal for flava, and the rest, they say, is history. It's fun to do, beats getting arrested, and helps me improve my recording technique which can always be improved. Here's the link to his song, of which I have no vested interest in, nor will I make a single penny off of. It's just to take my mind off of snow...
Yes, but if you lived in the eastern 'half' of the country, you went to Glakes. In 68, when I was stationed in Charleston, SC, with that Navy band, they sent us to Orlando for the acceptance of what had been a USAF installation as the new Orlando NTC. Closed~1996. It's now a(closed-mostly)mall.

Looking hard at a new bass amp- Why?? Not sure right now, but hoping to “get the band back together” in 2021.
I’m in a small Rez band here on Navajo Nation- we play community events, some “block parties”, and the occasional “real gig” in Flagstaff or Gallup, NM. No huge venues- but occasional outdoor gigs as mentioned/
My present amps are a Rumble 40- nice for open mics, practice, small things etc- Sounds good, insanely light, and has XLR out I can use for PA etc. Also have the Ampeg Micro CL 100W stack- sounds OK, basic EQ section, more power than the 40W rumble. Only has unbalanced 1/4” out. I have a couple of SansAmp clone DI boxes I can put in front of it for XLR and a bit more SVT-ish grit/grind if needed.
But I’m GASsing/looking at the Ampeg BA115v2 150W combo. It has effects send/return, the SCR”scrambler” (that must be used cautiously, I believe
) XLR out, and the Hi/Low buttons along with the EQ section. At 45lbs it’s not as light as the bros, but at $399 it’s reasonably priced. I think I can get 15% off, and have some loyalty ca$h at MF I can use to get it closer to $300. Hmmm.
I’m sure the “spend the extra $100 for the BA210” will come up, but that just may be more than I really need...
Any thoughts/opinions/experience here?

@68Tele-Bass the scrambler is ok. I think it kills too much low end anywhere past 9 o'clock and boosting the bass to counter it gets muddy. The low and high filters however I use a ton! I'm not sure size wise there's much differencebetween 115 and 210 but the power difference is significant. As stated earlier in the thread I am so pleased with my little 210 I'm gladly parting ways with my much more expensive Markbass 310 combo.

C-Note, welcome to the CC! Glad to make your acquaintance. Interesting post that deserves an equally-interesting response or, hopefully, responses. Nuage420 started ya off with some solid thinking. Now I’m gonna flip around in a slightly different direction.
If you’re lovin’ the Rumble 40 as much as it sounds, why not jump to the 200 (similar to the ‘Peg 115 v2 with the addition of adding an ext cab) or go for broke with a used 500 combo and end your search on a happy note?
We’ve got people here who swear by their large Rumbles at giving them everything they could want and the tones you’ve cooked with the 40 could transfer to the larger units. Weight-wise, you’d be saving your back a whole bunch compared to the Ampeg combos. Plus, Fender’s OD (IMHO) is slightly better than the Scrambler, which I can’t find a happy sound with no matter how hard I try.
Ironically, I’m an Ampeg guy and think of it as my default bass sound, but I’m also open-minded enough to see where the biggest bang for the buck lies. The BA-210 v2 will play nice, surprisingly, at lower levels so don’t worry you can play it at home, but the wedge-shape can make it a PIA to haul its 48-lb carcass around. I like the way it sounds as I owned one for a bit. I’ve never tried the 115 though I’d like to.
I’d recommend shopping used first, but if you get a sweetheart of a deal around Valentine’s Day, go for it! Best thing is to then take a pic of it (and your 40 too) and post it here. If ya do, I’ll score you a membership number and you too can become a combophile! Keep us posted.

I agree with everything you point out!! The weight of the Ampeg seem excessive in today’s world of neo-light cabs. Ampeg is the old-school sound most useful to me as well, and it seems the Rumble may get mostly there to start with!
I agree the OD bank on the Rumble 40 sounds great, and is very versatile. To get my “Ampeg-y” sound, I use a little OD, and engage the “vintage” button.
I hear bad things about the SCR Scrambler circuit being only fair up to a point (9 o’clock?) then becoming unusable.
I think a Rumble 200 used would be perfect- about same wattage without extension as the BA115v2 (120w alone- 200 with extension cab). I like the idea of a 15” with switchable tweeter to get that old school thump and lows. I know, I know, 10” speakers sound great as well, but....
I think I may be on a different Quest now

That one may play devil's advocate ....
A Tech 21 VT Bass 200 at 28 pounds will deliver Ampeggy goodness and beyond. The interaction between the Overdrive and Character knobs takes some getting used to but dang when you do .... It's a 12. Hearing all what 12 is the new 15? And it's a combo.
... well now I have another option as well. I am not dismissing the BA108 but that peavey 208 has really really REALLY piqued my interest.

The BA108v2 is an incredibly good practice amp (especially at the price), but at the end of the day it's still a practice amp. The Peavey 208 looks to me a giggable amp, and a very cool looking one at that.
I'm thinking the 208 may be overkill but if it will fit my trunk I'll be able to deal with that lol. The 12 inch max would be great too.

I can vouch for a Rumble 200 with a Rumble 15 extension cab for big "old school thump and lows" and a Rumble Studio 40 for quieter times
.Well, I side by sided rumbles, 25, 40, 100 with the Ba108 an ashdown studio and Blackstar 30 watt. For tone the Ashdown wins with the Ba108 nipping at it's heels. For my pick, the Ampeg all day. The ashdown is double the cost and maybe 10% better. The rumbles just didn't do it for me today like the big ones normally do. I was gonna grab the 108 while i was there but figured I would check for some deals first. New price is a deal for what you get but under $100 would be a steal.
Anyone have anything to say about the Rumble 15 and Rumble 25?
I hear a lot about the 40 and up, but those tots seem to get overlooked.
I posted a feature comparison of the Rumbles 15, 25 & 40 here for reference. They don't come with any acoustic fiber lining in the cabs like the 200 & 500 do, nor does the 100. So some users either put a little polyfill in the port(s), or a bit behind the speaker, to soften the sometimes boxy tone.
