Somewhat new combo for me... Musicians Friend has a stupid deal of the day for new, not b-stock, Markbass Jeff Berlin combos back in November for $749.00 so I snagged one! It is surprisingly larger than I expected, but great none the less! Here it is with my OG an old TKO 75, and a GR 2x8 bass cab that I have been running with a Quilter Interbass... the odd man out in my stable. I believe the Peavey weighs as much as the other two combined!

Agreed I could never be that patient. I would just spend the extra $80-90 bucks and buy it off or MF or GC. Get it in a few days.

Yup! But, no practice or gigs now, so I can wait a bit. My justification for this expenditure is being “good” all during this darn pandemic. My only recent gear has been a $129 Bullet Telecaster (Surf Green ) with a few doo-dads to mod it into a cool player.

So I feel I can “treat” myself to a nice powerful combo to rock out with. I’m looking forward to this- it will be the first real “modern” sound type amp that could hang with a band far more loud than my present band gets. I’d REALLY like that Jeff Berlin, but this is about half the cost...I’ve got a day job, and we’ve adopted our grandsons (age 5 and 8- a common story these days ) , so this should be a lot of cool sound, AND worth the wait!!
OBW- for any hockey fans out there- We are going to PHX on President’s Day to catch a Coyotes game...Best. Daddy. EVER. Can you say “Mini Suite”??? Garage Parking, mini suite, and food/drink included!! This should be soooo cool we may do it every year! We WILL be rocking our jerseys and Coyotes face masks I ordered!! If no kids- that Jeff Berlin would be in the mix- but I’m a happy guy with these two kids and can’t imagine life without ‘em now! Here they are skiing/boarding in Flagstaff last weekend- Whew!!

I would still get the Bugera over the Jeff Berlin combo. I've owned the JB combo and while it was really nice, it just couldn't hear myself in the band I was in. Not having a horn really hurts the JB combo IMO. The Bugera does not have a horn either, but the aluminum speaker makes up for it. I've used the Bugera 15A in the same band and could hear myself perfectly. That aluminum speaker really helps the sound cut through a band mix. Being able to select the mid eq frequency on the Bugera really helps the sound as well. Also that's great about the Coyotes game! Have fun. Living in Louisiana the closest NHL team to me is the Dallas Stars about 5 hours away.

Ditto! I'm not a teacher but dad to a 3 year old and a ,soon to be, 2 year old. What you are doing is beyond admirable!

Regarding th Bugera vs. the JB... honestly, I would venture to say the Bugera would do the job in spades. I had/have a TON of old gear that just never gets used anymore, in part due to 'rona, and also due to the fact that I want to spend time with my family. I was able to sell a bunch of stuff to shore up the cash needed for the JB.

Truth be told, the JB was a bit of a GAS induced impulse buy - I know, shocking! Dont get me wrong, it's an amazing amp, but waaaaaaaay more than what I need. These days I'm more inclined to record tracks for friends, or jam along to my favorite songs. I have the occasional basement/garage jams, but those are are even becoming more infrequent.

I've asked a few questions here, and in the Rumble club, about the Studio 40 because I can honestly see that as a do it all amp for my needs. That or possibly one of Phil Jones offerings. I've come to the realization that what I actually need these days vs. what "I think" I need are two very different things.

Hubba, you wrote a very interesting post that I enjoyed reading, thanks. You also sound like that guy who’s got his priorities straight too...congrats!

When my youngins were young I bought hobby items that I thought would sound good and fit the family budget. Now that the birdies have flown, it’s a lot easier to scratch that gear itch, though I still try to keep it reasonable, and sometimes do!

In the end, I see myself with one bass, one combo, a couple of pedals, and a whole bunch of fun memories. The journey happily continues with the search for my sound (I’m getting closer) and hopefully the gigs to play.

Actually, this is wife, Mrs. Fearless Leader. Your FL is snoozing in his chair like he tends to do on Saturdays and I posted this message with the hope he sees this and STOPS buying combo amps! I mean, seriously, how many of those things do you people need?

When your FL retires and move into the tiny cottage I have in my mind for the rest of our days, I’d like to see him with a ukulele. Then he can spend all his savings on me, instead on studio monitors, cables, and Mel Bay “Learn to Play Bass” books.

I've *just now* rediscovered my Peavey T-Max 115 combo. My God, what a monster. I'm scouting a 410 TVX to go under it asap. I played my Epi Thunderbird Classic Pro through it afew minutes ago, and I'm all done, baby.
Yes... you need more than one hammer in your toolbox, but this is the one I'll be carrying on my toolbelt.

Thanks! @Hubba-Whaa -Yes the JB would be overkill for my endeavors! I’m happy with the finding of the Bugera- That gives me three different voiced amps, Fender, Ampeg, and the Bugera, and thus more horizons!
I love my Rumble 40 (just the regular one- not the studio) and really love it. Versatile, light, loud, robust EQ and OD, can take pedals if you want, AND has that XLR out for studio/PA use- Not bad for $199 new...oh- has the aux in and headphones out for practice. YAY!!

If one of the B-series combos is coming back, I will be there, card in hand, ready to go. I was half-tempted to do a closet cleaning-out and there’s no better reason then a new amp! My ears are firmly planted to the ground.

Living in Louisiana the closest NHL team to me is the Dallas Stars about 5 hours away.

Me too!!! It’s about a five hour haul “down the Valley” for me to get to PHX. 2 and 1/2 hrs to Flagstaff, then another 2+ to Phoenix. But the boys need to see baseball, hockey and other things to be “normal” lol. We also like to head over to ABQ and catch the Isotopes AAA team there- lovely stadium, kid (and wallet!) friendly, and a cool town to do stuff in- took them to see Thunderbirds show at Kirtland AFB the year before pandemic! YAY.
