The Combo Club

Me too!!! It’s about a five hour haul “down the Valley” for me to get to PHX. 2 and 1/2 hrs to Flagstaff, then another 2+ to Phoenix. But the boys need to see baseball, hockey and other things to be “normal” lol. We also like to head over to ABQ and catch the Isotopes AAA team there- lovely stadium, kid (and wallet!) friendly, and a cool town to do stuff in- took them to see Thunderbirds show at Kirtland AFB the year before pandemic! YAY.
That's awesome! I really love going to Minor league baseball games. Always wanted to check out an air show. Maybe one day.

I’m looking forward to reading Tom’s writeup.

Yes!! That Elf combo looks SA-Weet!! 17lb, goodly amount of balanced line outs, speaker cab outs etc etc-

At $599, just too rich for my thin wallet. I must set up a hole in my mattress, or something, and stash random cash a bit at a time. ;)
I think I’ll be happy with the Bugera- looking forward to a nice carpeted enclosure- I’m sure it will be coffee-stained in no time! :woot:
Oh- and looking at cheep robust folding handcart. I’m (getting) Old! but hey- the Boys will be getting older sooner rather than later- they will be my roadies! :hyper:

I hear how the Elf has its own voice as I'm able to A/B the Elf and PJB BG400 easily. The PJB cabs have something of a reputation for accurate reproduction, so ... so how does the Elf sound?

The long answer is it depends on how you use the Gain. The short answer is rock 'n roll. It's got a big low end and lots of sheen. It's deceiving in that it kind of sounds "bigger" at the same volume level as the PJB. If I'm thinking BIG, an Elf and two PJB Cab 67s would be a Monster.

Thinking of what is actually likely in Gigland when the borders open again, I'd be way happy to take the 17 pound Elf combo :hyper:

Too quiet here

so a little combo pron

The SM58s arrived this very day, and is for my voice. Stowed here "out of the way", a science experiment presents itself a possibility. What does a hundred dollar practice amp with an Eminence Alpha 8a speaker sound like when recorded? I don't know!

The actual setup is to keep the mic on camera and record from the DI on the PJB BG400 right next to it. At anything more than very modest volume, the Phil Jones will rattle my bum into into the next county .... The Elf takes the cheesecake shot hubba hubba

I saw the PJB Cab 27 as an attractive alternative to the Trace Elliot 2x8. The Cab 27 is full range, and the form factor suits me too. Sometime Later ™ I saw another new Cab 27 on deep sale and snagged one.

I’m also looking forward to Tom’s review. The TE combo has always intrigued me, but I agree with you ‘68, it’s a lot of coin. It makes me wonder how good the Peavey 2X8 Combo is. A contender or pretender? I don’t think the amps are very close, but how do the speakers and overall construction match up? The fact the Peavey is two bills less makes those questions even more pertinent. Thoughts anyone?

M, do you think the Elf can do the cleans at higher levels? That would be my one reservation. I’m sensing a zero to full gain time in 2.1 seconds, but maybe not? Set the record, please.

Overdrive of the clearly fuzzy variety only kicks in when the gain is dimed. Gain somewhere between beyond noon is where the "tube-y" compression begins happening.

My MB212-ii and I went to rehearsal/recording tonight. Didn't like the sound I was getting with the studio's MarkBass combo. Had the rest of the band "heft" the GK. It was funny watching them gird themselves then almost jump off the floor when they lifted....and got the sound I wanted recorded.(of course!)

Congrats on getting what you’ve been seeking for a bit now. Never again will you need to subject the MB to your scowls of displeasure. Long live your GK!

Well, poking around at MF at the pres day sales etc. looking for something to cash in my loyalty bucks I before they go “poof”. Maybe a pedal, some patch cords or something...don’t really know...

Then. I see a combo amp. “Hey, I’ve just pre-ordered a combo bass amp!” But this one looks really cool- and cheap, and more than half again off with my “loyalty” bucks.
Well, at 12:30am, it just makes sense! Here’s my new combo coming in before the Bugera...

10 watts, 6.5” Vox “Bulldog” speaker, volume, gain, treble and bass, overdrive “channel” (a button...) and 1/4” headphone/line out. With the $43 “Rewards “ it’s about $35 all said and done! Less than my Vox AmPlug2, and my Orange Micro Crush!!! I think the British Racing Green leatherette and Union Jack grill cloth are “Snazzy” to use a Dad word! I’ll let you know how it sounds when arrives!! YAY!

Just to let you know, though I’m sure you do, it’s a guitar amp, not a bass amp. Maybe a moot point but I wouldn’t expect much bass output. If you play guitar though I think it’d be a fun ‘lil combo to own. Congrats!
