This may be a tough choice. Both have the +s and -s. Maybe we can call in those with any actual experience with either of these fine products. For me, it’s be the TE for the expansion possibilities. I can imagine a 3X8, 200-watt rig sitting on stage. Sounds tasty!

I used an Elf to power a second small rig at an outdoor gig, totally handled it.
I had 2x 4 ohm cabs, amps only went down to 4 ohms each.
It worked out fine, I ran to each from an AB box. Set my eqs, got them simpatico.
We played funky Motown/greazy funky dance music, lots of segues and transitions to modally-alike tunes. I got a nice bouncy thump, had a phat little bump going. Nice tones.
The Elf is an able little booger.

My Gallien-Krueger MB150E-112 is just like that. Plenty powerful for coffee-shop gigs, and I can plug in my 410 cabinet and hang with a rock drummer.

150 Watts and the "deep" switch have kept me happy for over 15 years.

I’ve been meaning to ask you, how’s the new GK combo doing for ya? I believe you’d said it had a different flavor compared to your long-tome amp. Have you gotten used to it? We know how that model was your fave combo and I wondered how it hanging for ya.

Given the state of life, I have almost no time alone at home, so I've been playing with just the Double Four. It sounds so good, that I've not really pushed the issue and plugged in one of the bigger combos.

I still think PJB needs to make the Quad Four a reality. Imagine double the power, and double the speakers? Even at double the weight, that's still only 18 pounds!

You know, RR, that is a brilliant idea. A 4X5 cab (we know they can build that), 150 watts (similar to the GK, it is), and still less weight than most combos. Charge $600 and you’re welcome n direct competition with TE’s combos. I love it! PJ, are ya listening?

Wouldn't it be a 4x4 cab? Or are you thinking of the 5" speakers as used in the Cub?

I envision a smaller and lighter version of the BG-400. I'd be all over that if it includes an output to run an external speaker.

As good as the Double Four is, I just want more of the same!

I'd say the reason it would have deeper bass would be because they could use a 8-10 inch "passive radiator" on the back!

The bigger cab for two more drivers would deepen the bass, as well as more air being shoved back and forth.

I'm aware of that from HiFi speakers. Take a bookshelf speaker and put the same drivers in a tower generally means more bass. I just love the idea of four 4" speakers with the big round unpowered speaker on the back instead of porting similar to the double four.

Oh, PJB could use materials and tooling from the 7" speaker line to make the radiator for a quad 4. They seem to be keeping these lines separate but it still seems like an easy win.

I stand corrected, Rod, a 4X4 cab it probably would be, but if they used the 5” Piranha drivers I would be okay with it.

Yes, ext speaker output and an XLR DI for recording. Maybe British Racing Green for an optional color too.

I thought it was more than a port, Prota. Or is it just a fancy port? I understood it as more of a passive radiator, like you were explaining. I’ll either have to go look it up or wait for our PJB guru, RR, to take on this mystery.
