I came to bass from trumpet via the tuba. My HS was too cheap to buy a sousaphone so I did my marching with a full size tuba...

Came to bass from saxophone and a traditional music education that stalled when I arrived at first year music theory at university. Some of you may know the drill. It begins with writing something that sounds vaguely churchy with all kinds of rules. A pencil is my friend as only someone barking mad would attempt this with a pen. The tall tale I tell myself is this is why I walked down the hall to the English department where life is easy 
Over there we read to discern ... um something or other that has a great deal of writing attached as part of the contract. It is a typewriter, and as typewriters go I believe it's a combo. Yes definitely a combo, being both electric and portable.
What I didn't need a book to discern is
I'd spent years learning how to read music and play, but absolutely no idea how to play music. You know, when the cool guys ask me to bring my sax with their band, I'm all where's the music? Without a score in front of me, I'm lost.
A lifetime later, feeling for the first time like a bass player instead of someone who plays bass!
Video recording is an incredibly powerful tool, and has changed my entire approach to the craft. Now that said, not every combo has a line level DI. Some are controlled by the volume/master is my understanding. Please to correct me if rong!
A smrtphn recording is good enough, and I see a lot of it in the cohort. What I also observe is the higher the quality recording, the greater the chances my willingness to listen and watch with an open mind. There's just so many layers going on in seeing yourself objectively. Crappy sound doesn't help.

Good evening, Doctor. It’s been ages since we’ve seen you around these parts offering your insightful prose. If you’ve been half as busy as I have then I know why you’ve been absent. It is May after all.
To answer your question, almost a week late, is those are pics from ‘16-17, I believe. The bass was my first Rogue bass which was what got me addicted to the short scale hollow body. It’s also the one that slid off a chair while propping it up as I opened my case after a gig. Saddest day of my bass-playing life.
The mistake caused me to immediately purchase another one, this time the VBII. While I wasn’t crazy about the combination of the MB rig (Lord, that setup has some oomph), as you’re all sick of hearing, I’m gaga over my current Beatle bass with the Markbass Marcus Miller CMD-101 combo!
In fact, if I don’t ultimately grab an Ampeg Rocket Bass Combo, I may consider the CMD-102, which is a 300-watt 210 combo. If the tone is anywhere close to my 110 and I can use for gig-levels, I may do it.
Those pics brought back nice memories. I think my hair was darker. Thanks for asking, Doc. Chime in and let us know how school is going.
In reference to an earlier post, I just might might woodshed my bass clarinet(yes, I own one)after the dental work is done(also my baritone sax-yes, I own one of those too). See if I have any lip left.Definitely...maybe.

Hearing this on my phone, it seems as if they didn’t do as much clean playing as grindy playing. Still sounded good though. I’ll have to listen to it again thru the monitors. I think it’s the first time I’ve heard it. Interesting.
