I don't want to get in the way of marital bliss or anything, but is there a reason she wants it gone? Taking up too much space? You don't use it anymore? Does it remind her of beer halls and taverns? Find out the reason and then you can work from there.

How's this? Agree to sell the rig, but you get to put the proceeds towards a New York 121 cab to go with your combo? Perfect match and even together they don't take up much room. See below. Just my two pence.

BTW, I am glad you're still enjoying your MB combo. Mine went right back to my go-to for this what's becoming a busy musical month for me. I've got the 101 on a stand and it's perfect alone or with my pedalboard. Right now all my other amps are taking up space. Gee, what if my wife overhears your wife...

There's a young lady who fronts a band called Lipstick Jodi near here. She plays a St. Vincent guitar and has said that she totally loves it. It's cool looking too. I wonder what combo she plays through?

That Looks KILLER BB!
But, as a Wise Man (guy?;)) said here before: “It needs a bridge cover”!

My project for today was to get the chrome on this...Just something right about a sunburst/tort Jazz with all the bling on!

Driving a Peavey 40 years ago does not feel very elegant today. It certainly didn't feel elegant then. What it feels like, even from here, are all the good and bad things about an amp stuffed into an indestructible box. A mark of pride in the mark of ... economy. There, I said it. I'd kind of love to play mine again just to stand in its unremarkable, but perfectly serviceable, "tone".

What the Peavey did, is got me by without fail. That makes it its own kind of star in my book. It'd be fun to show up with one for old times' sake but

a rehearsal amp down at the muffler shop or something is more like the sound of it to me :cool:

LBD, sorry for being so late getting back to ya, my darn day job keeps me from hanging 'round these parts all the time. Thanks for the great pic too. I'm curious how your Fliptop pedal plays with the Hartke? Can you wring out a 'lil Ampeg tone there? I love the thought of those four eights all working together to bring the bottom. BTW, you are now officially member #234. Congrats, stick it in your sig, and be proud of running that combo to deliver yer tones! Stop by anytime you like.

Good evening folks! Not much action around here the past day or two. It looks like we're sandwiched between "Which amp should I use for metal?" and "Can you use a guitar cab for bass?" posts back on Page 8. Come on people, we can do better than that!

I'll offer a musical update and anyone can follow me if you've got some bass news. I'm finally breaking outta the basement and playing music with someone else who breathes air. My musical partner at school, our music teacher, and I have decided to end this wacky year as we always do, with a touching song for the fifth-grade sendoff. We're adhering to our Covid rules and regs, but are bringing our 53 kids onboard to sing "Stand by You," by Rachel Platten. It'll be Jordan on guitar and vocals and me, obviously on bass and Sousaphone. (waiting for GP to pop in and tell us he also plays the Sousaphone)

We're both excited to get back to playing again and have a scheduled rehearsal this Friday at 7:30 in the school cafeteria. Feel free to stop by and jam with us. I'm christening the Precision as this is the first time it's been out of the house since I bought it last summer. I also decided, with expert opinion from SR, to bring the Rumble 100 with me so I don't have to worry about not having enough bass. I actually kicked around taking the Foxy Voxy combo but chickened out because I just don't see that 8" speaker giving me the bottom I want. I'm such a sucker for small basses because I love collecting them, but for real-world application, I don't have the courage to try them in rehearsal conditions.

This Just In: I have temporarily postponed my Combo Smackdown because of life getting in the way. I still need to thin the herd but have no idea at this point what's staying and going. I am holding off on an Ampeg Rocket Bass until further notice as well. I am looking forward to the comments of our members who should be receiving their RB purchases real soon.

On the orchestra front, my final Corona Special Orchestra contribution for this month, Wellerman's Song, will be recorded this coming weekend and out for listening after the 5th of June, I believe. I'll link it here if you're interested. I decided not to re-up since my contract ran out and plus, there's just too much German food being served in their clubhouse. I like all the Italian much better here at our place.

Finally, for those of you venturing into some DIY recording this summer, I wholeheartedly recommend it, and this is coming from a guy who absolutely hated the idea a year ago. I must admit though, and I think M has maybe mentioned this, recording yourself not only teaches you how to make a decent recording (and I'm still improving in that area), but it also sharpens your bass skills as well and that's been a huge win for yours truly. Self-confidence has gone up too as I push myself to play cleaner and basically not f*****' up as much. It's also becoming more fun as I learn more about the craft itself. I figure when arthritis finally takes my hands I can always become Swink's sound engineer. He can land me a deal on some A-1 equipment found in Tanzania. Give it a try if you're thinking about it. A hundred bucks will get ya started and it beats complaining about heat rash...

Okay, I'm done for the night. Have a good rest of the week, ya'll. I'm down to twelve, count 'em...12 days of school with the kidlings. Then, four days with adults, and I'm blowing the pop stand. No serious plans for summer as of yet, but there will definitely be some bass playing going on!

Yikes! And in response to FL's question, no, I don't play sousaphone. However...In high school I played bass clarinet. When we went to state contest, the marching band had to a 'half time' show. Now, a bass clarinet in marching band can be heard ~3' away(assuming the rest of the band is playing pp)but part of our fake halftime show was a stick figure. The 'face' required 3 sousaphones to represent eyes and mouth. We only had two sousaphone players that year, so I volunteered to carry a sousaphone, each of which had a red bell cover[school colors were red and white, school name in white letters]. B4 taking the field, the band hadda stand inspection by the judges. When the judge got to me he asked "Where's your mouthpiece?" I told him "I play bass clarinet, I'm only carrying this for the "show". This was confirmed by others. He thought about that for a moment, shrugged and said "OK".
