I played on the new RB 110 from Ampeg... Um... I personally like tone from the BA combo better. Overall it is a cool little amp, but at 250 for a 50watt 110 it is an easy pass for me.

Fair enough, I trust your ears. Did you get a chance to use the SGT? I think it's an improvement over the Scrambler in the V2 series, but those are my ears talking. Did ya get a chance to try any of the larger combos?

After thinking about it I'm gonna guess why you like the V2s better. The last series was, from what I remember reading, patterned more after the SVT tone because that's what I hear when using my 108 v2. The RB line, from what I hear is more the B15 vibe, though with the SGT circuit you can add a dash more of that SVT grind.

For me, I'm a sucker for that studio monster, the B15, and that's why I love playing through my 112 so much. To my ears, what I need is all there. When I add my SCR-DI preamp pedal, I can coax the better SVT sound out of it. Best of both worlds. That's my $0.02 on it.

Someone makes covers for combos and amps with just measurements being sent to them. IIRC they can put in pockets and even custom graphics. Maybe there is a post in this thread about them?

Hey RR, I took your advice and contacted the team that makes amp covers. I gave them the dimensions for the D4 and requested they make it cool-looking and fun. This is what they sent me to peruse...thoughts?

Pulled out more stops test driving the RB-115. I added a Dapper Bass DI box to effects loop thusly…

Had SGT on halfway with level at 3:00.

Here it is without the carnival midway effect…

Used tuner on DI- nice! It worked well. Used the boost (up to +12dB- like a quasi-“Spark” pedal) One knob compression at 12:00.

Also used the preamp section on the Dapper Bass- Gain at about 12:00, volume at 10:30-11:00, bass mids and treble all at 12:30 (barely on..but a bit of “grunt”). That preamp is very serviceable, can get the SVT thing going- teaching the B-15 voiced Rocket a new trick!

The SGT impressed me a lot! Ran it to halfway, and it added enough “hair” that seemed more natural and subtle that the SCR “Scrambler” ciurcuit. Job Well Done!
Maybe it’s that Eminence 15” that’s making the SGT sound nice! I didn’t run it wide open. Yet..

Im just scratching the surface. Lots more work ahead! I have that 210 cab to plug into it at some point-

Of my four Ampeg amps, my newest is 48 years old. They must hate customers like me.

I make my own covers from fabric store vinyl. Basic materials cost less but when I factor in my time, they wind up costing way more to build. Then again, it’s about pride in ownership.

Fun setup, Tele and neat pics. I've seen that Dapper and thought it'd be fun to "accidentally" drop one in the cart and get one sent to me, but my chief concern from it would be noise after hooking up my Zoom B1on FX pedal to my Orange Terror Bass last week. I visited Noise City and forced me to unhook the rig. As already mentioned, I did not use the NR circuit, but I've not heard that much hiss since a poor acting performance in our junior high play. Have you found it to be noisy or not?

It's the VT Bass and the PJB combo that get called to reggae groove duty. That, plus the cat bass and NordyMute gives me an even better reggae tone than the semi-hollowbody with flats I could probably get the semi-hollowbody in that range with a NordyMute, but for now it's palm muting and a thumb

Can anyone give me a recommendation on a combo with a good XLR out, that is not affected my the master volume?
At the moment I’m looking at the Markbass CMD121h, which I know has a separate pot for DI level. I’m curious about the Fender Stage 800, as I know the Rumble 500 XLR is post everything.
I’m moving away from my Helix Stomp>The mixing desk setup, as I’ve picked up a few gigs where I won’t always have the luxury of a really good PA. so I’m after a portable but capable combo that can be my stage monitor for my main band and cover small gigs for side projects.
I use a 5 string P bass, playing weddings and functions, or country/Americana. Thanks guys

Just staying off the 1 is all I'm doing. Haven't even moved the "impressed myself" needle. (Don't think it ever moves.) The only part that is interesting is the last time I was called upon to play a reggae groove I couldn't hear it. That's, um, 40 years ago. More interested in the groove than the notes, so we'll see. There's the pre-relic'd rasta strap I picked up ... a strap doth not a rasta make.

What I've got going is the cat bass and NordyMute with the neck pickup in parallel, and the deep cut engaged. Treble on the PJB amp is full off, bass is nearly full on, and it's all going through a VT Bass "fat tube" setting for overdrive. The playing is guaranteed to be on the low end of 1109 and the equipment is crackerjack. All part and parcel of Official Crappy Bassist with Expensive Gear Club

I’ve studied reggae bass a bit. There seems to be two ways of playing reggae bass. One is to do just that. Skip the one and then just do what sounds right. The other thing to do is make a funky little riff that has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the song and just stick with it.
Either way reggae bassist stay on the very low end only. If there’s a low B string even better.
