The Gretsch Junior Jet that you can plug into your combos is a whole lot of bass for (relatively) small coin. And a wide selection of strings that fit properly are easily found. Not so much so in the string department for the Mikro and the Epi.
I like it too. I've got strings picked out to fit the Viola but the Mikro is definitely a bit challenging. I do love the Mikro neck and it's J P/U. Lots of growl. The P didn't work.
Just found one for $255. Blemish. Gonna put da trigger.
It sure can be! There’s a million fuzz pedals and bass compressors out there. A player could go mad looking for that perfect one. That’s not even considering envelop filters phasers and octave pedals and blah blah blah. Add in cabinet simulators and custom pickups. One can GAS as much as they want.
That said if you’re a bedroom player a good fuzz pedal is a must. There’s just no other way to get the sound of a screaming tube amp without making your neighbors angry. I’ve never been impressed with the onboard ODs that come with some amps. But YMMV.
I'm so excited. $255.00. Looks a lot more expensive than that. Gonna sound Terrific through me Rumbles.

Checked the status of my Stingray this afternoon. It's been two weeks since the shop rang to say EBMM responded to the parts order — after close to five months in the queue.
The used Fender Rumble is no longer there. Was it a R40? Or was it the 100? Don't recall. Very little in the bass amp department there. What is there, parked to the left of the shop entrance, is a taco truck
Found something useful, though, and snapped up a smrtphn holder for mike stands.
The VT Bass Deluxe was my first pedal and turns out to be far more useful to me than I ever guessed in all these years of bass - cable - amp. It's my E Ticket to ampless gigs YAY. In and out with only my bass. Oh Yes Life Is Sweet with a DI pedal. FOH says great tone.
That's all the overdrive that comes with the VT Bass. Nine-volt batteries bummed me out enough to build the smallest pedalboard possible, considering the width of the VTBD. Room for a HPF, check. Vox strobe tuner, because it bums me out to play with a headstock tuner on my bass. Room for a toy ... and heyyouknowwhat an octave pedal means no drop tuning for the inevitable call from the singer whose range isn't what it used to be. For one song. Drop tune for one song
Pedalboard itself is battery-powered, and done.
With a combo, that means the only necessary cables are the instrument cable, and the power cord.

So how do you think that Tech 21 Q-Strip would do as your DI/EQ/filtering pedal LJB brought up earlier today? I’m thinking it might be a replacement for those allergic to amps or have no stage space available.
@LoveJackBruce congrats that is a really good bass. I have the exact same one. The color is beautiful. It’s comfortable to hold. Only 7.5 lbs. Comfortable fast neck. I put some Labella flats on it. Smooth as buttah. I put a high mass bridge on it but honestly I don’t think I had to. I love the tuners. It plays well. It sounds good. It’s 300 bucks. Really can’t go wrong. Your gonna like it.
I pretty clueless actually ( I admitted it) as to what it'll do tone wise. I do know it will protect all of my combos amps and speakers and add some clarity. And probably tighten up and add a little lead tone to my acoustic guitar.
We be Bass Brothers now!!!! I'll be putting on some Short Scale Super Slinky lights (40-100) to start as I have a set sitting here begging to be played. Playing Funk Masters on my Sterling and love em, so flexible. I love the tuners as they remind me of my previously owned EB-0 & SG Basses. Yes, quite excited.

The VT Bass and Q/Strip are pretty different animals with different ends. For me, at the time of purchase, it was between the VTBD and the VT Bass DI. Went with the Deluxe for its six presets. Possibly the easiest route to a pedal DI is the MXR M81. Straight-ahead EQ and a DI ....
For me and my alleged Real World ™ needs, the VT Bass gets me all the phat on the way to my computer without playing ̶r̶e̶i̶n̶d̶e̶e̶r̶ software games. Did not know this when I bought it. Did not know there would be a lockdown, and did not know I'd be recording for MTftBP.

Afterthought — players who want a Fender/Marshall/Vox EQ with their DI might look at the Fender Downtown Express. But I actually have no knowledge if that unit uses the Fender tone stack. The box does have an overdrive and compressor. My personal inclination, were I to rip the VT bass off my board, would be a Mesa/Boogie Subway Plus, with its own variable HPF. After that, the Trace Elliot Transit B and an HPF/LPF.
I have fallen in love with this jewel (Fender Smolder) to play my Ac-Guitar through my Studio 40. Sounds sooo good. The demos mentioned it also works for electrics, so maybe da bass??? Anyhoot, on my short, very short, list. I be thinking as I don't play out nor exceed 12 o'clock Volume on my combos, the HPF & LPF are not a priority for me, but still on my list.
This is what I do when I wake up. Lord, help me!
LJB, you don’t need one for what you’re doing playing at home, though it’ll never ruin your sound if you ever buy one. Should you choose to jump down the rabbit hole line many of us and begin recording, you will find both high and low filters built in to any plug-ins you might use. In other words, play and enjoy making music!
Plug-ins- there’s that word again…can I do all this with a Scarlet interface into an iPad?? What software do you favor??
