Which do you recommend/have? The always on box does have the same frequency sweep, just not marked….I don’t like that part! How would you know where it’s sets at????

I have the always-on. What I did was download the pic of the not-always-on from the site, and sketch its indication on a small white sticker which went on my always-on.

Because my combos can't take selfies, I do this for them.



It's a rearrangement of my practice space, completed in two attempts on Sunday. Rearranged because I need better access to the desktop computer for practice. The earlier iteration meant repositioning the chair for the Webcam, then putting it back. Now it's all in one, easy-to-reach place and as it plain to see

plain to see the Ampeg BA108v2+ is still center stage with the EQ panel in easy reach. The DI to the DAW is from the PJB combo. The Elf because dang is it fun

The backstory is — my BG-400 combo is on a remote an island on another continent



and I am here with a PJB C4 cab, and the Ampeg practice amp. It's green, it's an Elf for crying out loud, what grade strength clue by four do I need?

The PJB BG-400 does the heavy lifting today (and it's heavy to lift!). The Elf has its own cab with a new Phil Jones Cab 27. You know, for these smaller gigs. One afternoon, just minding my own business, I see another PJB Cab 27, brand new, and heavily marked down this weekend only and now there's two complete rigs

What's fun to me about the Elf is called hook it up to an 8x10 and tell me 200 watts isn't enough And it'll do work as a silent DI just by disconnecting the speaker cable

each day passes with no word from the luthier
until that day that he does ring

Thinking of your Ray rejoining the house, I was reminded of Music from "The Elder." My way of thinking is that your Ray is indeed the elder among the instruments and amps, and should have a place of status. And occasionally played just for the fun of it.


Edit: While I respect the effort made to do something completely different, I don't recommend looking up the album referenced.

Original owner pre-EBBM StingRays are becoming rarer and rarer, is what I learn when I enter mine into the unofficial record. I've still got the original hang tag. Let the original HSC go as the Reunion Blues CV gig bag took up the job. To me, the old HSC was suspended animation for the 'Ray as I saw to other things in life that required my attention. And like on Discovery One, maybe a wee problem ...

And a curious moment as the luthier rings me when I'm mid-appointment in Chicago. We have your estimate. (several months passed in the EBBM queue, waiting for an answer). "Yes, fix it," and that's where things stand today.

My understanding is the bass originally shipped with what are now sold as GHS Brite Flats. Or they could have been GHS flatwounds. Or it could have been whatever was in the shop that day. It is Leo's operation, after all. He may have even been in the building the day it was completed? There's a new set of GHS Brite Flats waiting here when My 'Ray comes home.


edit. looked mine up again in the database. And confirmed a StingRay a few serial numbers from mine toured with Eric Clapton. And another with AC/DC.
I've got a lot to live up to with that bass.

I'm jealous. What I'd love to have some day is a Leo triplet, a pre EB Ray like yours, an early model G&L, and my 70's spacing Jazz.
