The Combo Club

My MarkBass Players School combo just got a new ally. It's a home built cabinet around an Eminence Delta 12 LFA speaker. I didn't build it, by the way, I bought it like this from the used gear shop.

I now have 250 Watts through a fifteen and a twelve. And that's my limit. Any band where this isn't enough: I'll simply refuse to play with you!

NAD! My new Ampeg RB210 came today. You can see it together with my BA108v2 in this photo:

It is exactly what I expected. Nice tone, power, clear sound, portable, etc. Really happy with this amp. I used to play through the BA108v2 at home but the tone of the RB210 is much better IMO so, I think it will be my amp for everything from now on:)

Hey come on! You’re little 108 doesn’t stand a chance against a 210. Even if they had the same head. There’s a reason they have weight classes in boxing.

Well I had band rehearsal and brought the stack I showed you a few posts back. It worked great! I sounded, in a word, authoritative. (That English word has been going through my mind all day. My language doesn't have a word for this.)

Being so powerfully present in the band sound made me very aware of my responsibility, as I can now influence the sound a lot. So, focused practice required, instrumentalist!

Michael, they can be quite silly when they want to be, but it's always served up with a touch of love. At least that's what they tell me...

BTW, good evening, folks, before I'm off to bed for one more day before the famous three-day "labor" weekend. Don't worry, I have plenty to labor about, but the brown truck dropped off a 'lil present to ease my educator's pain and suffering. The second time I've owned it because I didn't like the sounds it offered me. Maybe I'll appreciate it more a second time 'round and for $54 I couldn't say no. Need my VOX hit every now and then. I look forward to chatting this weekend. Bye 'til then.

And no, it's not the lampshade...

I'm very curious about this stomp box. Tell us what you like as you play around.

Instrumentalist, I didn’t get a chance to comment on your previous post, but I think it’s great you found a mate for your Markbass. Can you hear the difference? Can you open up your volume a bit and get they fuller sound? Your ext cab certainly has a decent driver in it. Congrats!

FL - Finally I can report back to the Club ! DI did some rehearsals today - playing through this Hugh Kettner XXL bassforce. A chubby "15 sound ! Ain't pretty, but moves the air .

BB, ya made it back! Nice to see you again. Wow, you brought along an interesting piece of history. An H & K bass combo, huh? I knew they dabbled in amps for the low end, but I don’t think I’ve actually seen a combo of theirs. Very cool!

Update: now that I'm in Command Central I see BB is proud member #219 so he is in fact not in need of a number. Sources reported to me that I needed to add someone new. If it's you I'm looking for, let me know again and I will put you at the top of my priority list, right after napping and watching cat videos with my grandkids. Thanks!

Well, the new Fender TV10 kicked butt at the senior center gig. Full, big bloomy notes that are perfect for country and 50's R&R with the P-Bass. The band leader loved it (but he already loved the TV15). It also rides nicely on the motorcycle. A little taller than my other rigs but still balances nicely and really no different than a passenger except a lighter.

Congrats, Datsgor, that’s really neat to hear. I could see that combo being the perfect rig partner to your bass. My only question is what if you were asked to take the PA to the next gig? ;)

Dogs are so amazing. We totally don't deserve dogs.

Mid-break here from practice as the dog perp tells me it is time to relax. Practice is solely through my combo. My switch from the cat bass with GHS Balanced Nickels to the semi-hollowbody with La Bella Low Tension Flats
[ 'scuse me dog time again ]
a standard poodle who seats himself exactly between my practice chair and music stand isn't to be ignored.

Oh yes the flats. They feel absolutely decadent to play. Neck pickup full on, tone closed a bit of 'Peg goodness from the VT Bass

A Rocket Bass combo would fill a particular hole in the amplification armory. What I'm really thinking though is the Orange Terror Bass and cab of choice. One more PJB C4 would rock. A RB-115 is just up my alley ....

M, I just read a review on the TB where the owner who was scribing his thoughts said to him it's a "B15 on steroids." I'm assuming the steroids he's talking about is the larger power amp, but a B15? Interesting. Admittedly, the way I use mine, it's not illogical to hear it that way. I use the clean channel 99% of the time and use the tone controls in any wild way. Tons of headroom and a midrange that's not scooped to Cincinnati, if ya know what I mean...

R2B, my fearless sensors are going off telling me that you, my friend, are in need of a membership number to the Combo Club. How do I know this? Because 1) you posted an interest in wanting to show off your latest acclamation, which is why we're here, and 2) you have two awesome amps displayed in an honest-to-goodness real pic. That's all you need for entrance to our 'lil ole family here. Let me know if I can score ya a number; I have one ready to go!

Me again. Can I also interest you in a membership number after blasting some vintage Fender amplification on our pages? I think it's time to make it official, Datsgor, what do you think? Let me know! :hyper:
