The Combo Club

I’m 13 years old. It’s 1974. There was a concert put on by the local AM pop radio station WKBW. It was held in the parking lot of a movie theater. I had never seen a band live. I walk up to the stage seeing a live band for the first time and saw this:

Talas and the song they were playing? white Punks On Dope. Followed soon thereafter by My Generation. I was blown away. He was amazing. Right from the start. And everyone knew we were watching something special. Except he was wearing headphones on stage the show I saw. Same boots. Same bass.

I agree btw what you hear is what matters… But that said not having compression as far as technique goes makes me be a more disciplined bass player. Hope that makes sense.

Yup- “Tread lightly, and carry a Big Stick” :woot:
Makes you a better player. But onboard limiter or compression is a great tool! :bassist:

I play acoustic guitar through my Studio 40 and love it!

Nice!- I really like the way my Squier VM Jazzmaster sounds through it!

Man, those were the days. If you were cool, you listened to "KB" and Danny Neaverth was the best.

You guys are just yanking my chain right?

Michael, they can be quite silly when they want to be, but it's always served up with a touch of love. At least that's what they tell me...

BTW, good evening, folks, before I'm off to bed for one more day before the famous three-day "labor" weekend. Don't worry, I have plenty to labor about, but the brown truck dropped off a 'lil present to ease my educator's pain and suffering. The second time I've owned it because I didn't like the sounds it offered me. Maybe I'll appreciate it more a second time 'round and for $54 I couldn't say no. Need my VOX hit every now and then. I look forward to chatting this weekend. Bye 'til then.

And no, it's not the lampshade...

I am very curious about that pedal. Looking forward to your impressions! Please share when possible.

The salve?

Gig Friday night, 6-9 @ Harry and the Natives(local restaurant/bar). ________* bass>R200c. Might use EHX Micro POG. One of our guitarists is up north(?)so it'll be guitar, drums, me, and a sax man. Kinda wish I hadn't committed to it-other plans. Oh, well, sumpin' to do on a Friday night.

*Prolly TBird, maybe EB-0.

An octaver like the EHX is the one effect I find I have a place for. The MXR Vintage Bass Octave is what I settled on. Sometimes I entertain pulling from the board for an Ampeg Opto Comp run at its lowest settings. Not a priority.
