Had one in the late ‘70’s, Fireglow. Great sound, but Rick strings the regular and octaves the opposite of everyone eles. I had to swap them to ‘normal’ having other 12 strings. With big hands, tuning could be a challenge, and that was before electronic assist....Amazed at all the different types the Cheap Trick bassist has (and designed, I believe I read).
Because of the layout, I always get confused as to which way to turn the tuners. Like you said, space is also tight to get in there to tune.
What amazes me is the major roll that the 12 string bass has in Cheap Trick. The bass is a big part of their sound. Tom uses two amps, a bass and a guitar amp.

It's the DI from my PJB BG-400 combo I use today to record the final video for the Music Theory for the Bass Player winter cohort. It's late, it's late, yet submitted with a week to spare. The Thing That's Going Around breakthrough case is far enough away in the past tense to create this Bach- like exercise. Another week and I'd have it nailed for certain but right now I don't care. Did the video in a single take and now time to play

Here is his last post.It's what keeps us thriving, WBB. If all we could talk about was just combos, there'd still be a few of us nerds here, but the fact that it extends to our instruments, gigging, recording, day-to-day life, and even the occasional kerfluffle, I think it speaks volumes of the people who hang here consistently, those who drop by occasionally, as well as the clubs small, but (IMHO) significant impact here at TB. All that and the fun we have too!
That's it, I'm announcing I'm FL forever. No way I can leave. Long live, your Fearless Leader!
Disclaimer: the words said above were during a Covid-related loss of memory and lack of understanding of his surroundings. We've medicated FL and he is resting comfortably now. The search for a new leader will proceed beginning in 2021 after the 300th member (or no later than June 1) is signed. With any luck, his sound mind will return after this devastating illness and he'll be once again feeble enough to lead if only for a few months. Thank you.

Fender Rumble 500C
When I need more I add a BFM 1x15 Simplex that's loaded with a Eminence neo 3015. All the rig I've needed.
I sent him a message a few days ago. No response. I am a little concerned.
He is fine, just overloaded with work, recovering from a COVID break through and now has a guest for the weekend.
