I can't say I'm a big fan of the Sidewinder look but I love the Crossover--went to Bill's shop and played a hollowbody fretless in a Crossover body style. Anyone have pics of a Crossover he's made?? Thinking of ordering one.

who refretted it?? what size frets were used?? i'm thinking of having my GT7 refretted and am debating on what size and material of frets to use..
take a closer pic of the fretboard, with more ambient light..

Yesterday, I bought & received a used Conklin GTBD-7 ($900 incl shipping). Since I knew it was used, I assumed it would be all marked up, etc. Aside from a little buckle rash and some signs of it having been worn, the Purpleburst finish is quite spectacular. It has been mentioned before on TB and I'll support their comment. Online pictures do not do this bass justice. You actually need to see this bass to truly appreciate it.
Also, since it was used, I assumed I would need to have it set up. As it turns out, the bass is set up perfectly. The action is already set low which happens to be my preference and the intonation is already set.
I would like to have a Conklin club number please.
Edit: As I look back through this thread, it seems only 3 numbers were issued 0, 1, and 2. I happen to like club numbers. Therefore, I will choose a random number. Since this is post #69 of this thread, that is the number I will take.

Im about to buy a used conklin GTBD 7.,but it doesnt come without any case..What SKB or hardcase would you recommend or you guys have used that is good enough for shipping overseas?or do you think the case sold on the conklin site is good enough

The case on the Conlkin site should work. It's a lighter case that's not quite as tough as a true hard case, but much tougher than a gig bag. It should be adequate for shipping, just insure the bass and case and ask the shipper to make sure the bass is secure and can't move around in the case prior to shipping.
No suggestions. Just that it be a nice strong hardcase for shipping overseas. The Conklin case seems well made enough, but really, I'd be really reluctant to ship the bass in it more than local or state to state shipping. Even boxed in cardboard it's still really a gig bag and the the stiffness of it I imagine could be crushed if subjected to the expert mashers that handle shipping. Nope. If it were me I'd try to find something not so easily mashed and easier to use as a gig bag too. Hey. I want to REPLACE mine if I can find a decent hard case...Not buy a new one!

here's something i've done when having to travel with my basses.
1st : get a nice gig bag - the gig bag that you have linked to there looks pretty good, definitely solid.
2nd : go to skb and check out their golf cases - in particular model # 2SKB-4814W - that's an ata case. i have 2 of these cases, and i am able to put -3- of my basses (all conklin custom 7 and 8 strings, which are up to 48" long) in -each- case, in their gig bags. i've traveled via plane numerous times with this arrangement with no problems. the cases cost me about $150 a piece from a golf supply store (The skb sports stuff ends up being cheaper than the skb music stuff) and worked like a charm.

3rd : when you get the golf case case, ask the store if they still have the box for it. if you need to ship the bass, in this case, that would definitely come in handy.
4th : pack bass in gig bag. pack gigbag in golf case, with liberal packaging material to keep it stationary. pack golf case in box, again with material to keep it well protected.
i think that would be a perfect solution for this, and it would also give you a good alternative to a hardshell case that is easy to move and will hold up to 3 instruments in gig bags without being unwieldy.

I made a few mods and have one more to go before I'm done. I added a Hipshot A bridge for wider spacing, freeboard inlays and straplocks. When I can, I'll add z Bart 3 band preamplifier and she will be complete;-)

i wouldn't ship anything in those alone. i have a few of those gig bag-type cases for some of my customs and the basses shift a bit out of their carved spots in transit. i would think that during shipping the shifting could cause some damage.
