Yes, I have been considering these as well as other flats,
But truth be told, I have always been a round wound player, first with Rotosounds. Last few years DR Pure Blues. But thought maybe for this bass flats may be the ticket, guess I won’t know until I try them. It just seems this bass isn’t the round wound type; at least I don't jell with what it came with from the factory.

I tried one older one, the version with the 2 piece bridge sort of like the Hipshot D, and my guess would be circa 9 - 9.5lbs. But that one wasn't weighed. It didn't seem particularly heavy.

I am looking for a low cost 6 to try out before plunking down big bucks for an expensive one.

Or maybe I'll just be happy with this one.

Don't assume that the more expensive will be better in any practical sense. I have a number of Ibanez SR 6strings and I really like my SR206. My 806 is better in some ways, and fancier looking, but I'm not sure it would make any real difference in a band context. The 206 is also really inexpensive, it was about 1/5th the cost of my BTB6.

Buy a nice 6 and play it. Once you decide you like 6s, go on a road trip and play every one you can. I'm a big ibanez SR fan, and they have the advantage that they have a very consistent feel to the neck and body, so if you like the 206, you'd like the feel of a TOTL MIJ Prestige version.

This was mine, a 2014 build Cort Artisan A6:

I had its stock pickups & electronics upgraded with US Bart MK6CBC pickups, HR-5.2AP/918 preamp, and a DPDT switch for coil selector of the MK6 pickups (both outer single coils, both dual coils, or both inner single coils).

I did weigh it. IIRC, it was 5.9kg (roughly 12lb 15oz). Not so comfortable for a 2 hour gig.

Later I sold the A6 as I got the Ibanez SRFF806, which is by far the most comfortable regular/long scale (more so that it's a multi-scale) 6 string bass I've ever come accross, weighing at only 3.85kg (about 8lb 8oz).

You can get Hipshot Kickass bridge saddles if you find the omega slotted saddles limiting.

Got a Cort A5 made in 2014... They seems to be well made compared to the A5 plus. The mahogany wood is very solid and doesn't easily dent like the newer ones. This comes with a rosewood fretboard. Compared to the wenge fretboard, the tone is ballsy and warm. The wenge fretboard is more mid focus and brighter in tone

Initially got the B5 Element and TBH, I was disappointed. The bridge was set too far and it was difficult to set intonation for the D and G strings. Dead spots on the fretboard and the G string just didnt resonate like the other strings.. sounded dead even with strings changed. looked like they rushed that production and quality check was off. Just didnt sound right to me. Had to return it to get the A5 ..

Beside the QC issue, I found the new Element sound better warmth than B5 plus I own before. A4/A5 absolutely sound much brighter and too bright as a bass guitar to my ear.

This might be partially true for the A series in passive mode, but the Bartolini mk1 pickups are generally not known for being particularly bright. Apart from that, the active EQ can be used to dial in darker, more mellow sounds. I had an A6 for a few years and mainly play reggae. Never encountered any problems with too much brightness. Ymmv.

Just a little upgrade....

1. Delano pickups, which I absolutely love, and would say are as near a perfect match as you could hope to have in this bass. Next step is either a Delano or a Glockenklang (pretty much the same thing really) pre-amp.
2. Some new knobs - the same that you'll find on Sadowsky basses... these are far nicer, I think, thank the stock chromes.

Been own the GB74JJ, the neck aren't stable, the replacement piece are better, but still not as stable as the roasted maple neck on Bacchus BJB1RSM.
The GB64J has great solid roasted neck, but dint come with 5 string model.
Check the latest GB modern, roasted neck and has truss rod wheel.
