The CORT Club!!!

I joined the Cort club some time ago, but then sold both of my Corts (an A4 and a GB-94) in a fit of temporary insanity :)

I bought a Warwick Corvette, and whilst it's been a nice bass I've realised the error of my ways and I'm going to pick up a new GB-94 in the morning.

They are so nice ;)

(...anyone want to buy a Corvette? :hiding: )

....oh well - it was not to be. I went to check it out this morning (was ready to buy if it was nice), and unfortunately the GB-94 they got in for me wasn't a very nice one. Neck pocket wasn't brilliant (not terrible, but not as good as my last one - which was really nice and tight) and it had some small cracks in the binding where the nut had been inserted.

Also, it was supposed to be a new one from the distributor, but was obviously either a return, or had been hanging on a shop wall elsewhere for some time.

Lot's of minor surface scratches on the body, and marks from playing on the pups.

When I mentioned it to the guy, he got pretty aggressive about it, and dismissed my claims - saying that it must be new 'cause it came from the distributor.

When I nicely said - thanks for getting it in for me, but this one isn't for me - he said:

Oh well that was a waste of time, wasn't it! @#$% happens!

Ha!

I couldnt beleive his attitude. I won't be going back there again.

It's a pity my regular store (who are great) don't stock Cort.

Sanded, beveled and rounded corners on back of the headstock, applied dye, tung oil, ca glue, poly, poly poly, sanded some more, polished, went over it with Micro Mesh for a nice satin feel. It seems to sound better! Fast neck!

NEXT WEEK: .708" Hipshot Aluminum B style bridge goes on!

That wasn't me trying to sell a JPS-5. I've only had this one for about 3 weeks.

Love this bass!

Cort make great bases. Have previously owned an A6 Artisan and a JPS5 that I no longer have or have pics of (A6 natural, JPS5 trans green quilt). Currently own A5, A4 and a Fender Am. Deluxe Jazz 5. The A5 doesn't get any time much any more as I prefer the spacing on the Jazz, but I love the A4 and even though I love nearly everything about the Jazz if Cort made a wide string A5 I think I would sell the Jazz. How does one make suggestions to Cort - cant seem to do it through their website.

Also 1. Am I able to grab a number - will put it in my sig eh? Let me know if I have to PM someone, thanks.
2. Have owned many a 'top end' bass. Comparing the Corts I think they are as good if not better. The only other bass that comes close in mine is the Euro Spector. Great bass but comparing the two I think the Cort stacks up for a lot less and probably balances a little better.

I was watching CSI NY tonight and the famous "Mac" was plucking away on a black Cort B4. It was an older episode because it was on SPIKE but right at the end "Mac" was playing with a Jazz ensemble. So I guess we could add Gary Sinise to the club!

Check out this clip from 4:40 till the end.

Might be old news but I thought it was really neat-the episode also had some Steinberger's,a Danelectro, and of course the big F......lol.

Makes me wish I hadn't sold my Curbow 6 now :crying:

I'm on the market again for a 5 or 6 string, and seeing this thread has me seriously considering Cort again. It was an amazing bass, just uncomfortable for sitting down play. There's an Action series 5 on the 'bay at the moment - how do these lower end models compare with the Curbows etc?

what a great idea a cort thread! I own a 5-string A series. I want to change strings because I bought a set of Warwick with 0,40-10 gauge that I don't like, too metalic and bright, with a flabby bottom...can you all give me an idea? I was thinking about D'Addario...also I noticed that the original strings in this bass were much more thick. hi, low end to all!

Hey Darren - try to stick with the higher models in my opinion. I've owned an A4, A5 and an A6 and they were all great basses. String spacing on the 5 and 6 were a little narrow for me (17mm at the bridge) but apart from that build quality, comfort, tone and playability were all exceptional. Plus I think they look great. There are a few on Ebay at the mo that wont break the bank.

Well, I found a cracking Cort Action V for £149 - reduced from £299 on eBay brand new. :hyper: Reading the thread got me thinking about Cort as a possible contender for a 5 or 6 string bass to add to my collection.

Just thought I'd say a thank you to those who posted advice on what to buy. A great bass for the budget conscious that's for sure. Beautiful looks, great weight and good solid tone.

How do people rate the pickups on these? Would you consider and uprgrade? If so, what would you recommend? Also, I'm intrigued by the Audere Classic Preamp as an additional modification to the bass. Has anyone here used this preamp with this bass?

Cheers once again guys!

The only good shot of my Cort 3535 series % string on this computer. I will try to get better shots soon

I found this bass at a Korean music store tucked away in the back, and bought it for 600 US dollars... I think when it first came out in like 1997 or something It was worth 800 or so. I don't know why, but I am in love with this bass. Mind you, I need a neck reset and I have a Schaller roller 5 bridge waiting to be put on. Also, I am getting a wider nut so that the string spacing goes from 15.25mm to 17mm. excellent electronics IMO, although i am thinking of swapping the stock electronics with bartolini pickups and preamp (with two volume switches, so that if I feel like it, I can solder a gibson style switch and have it be able to do the killswitch function)

I always feel indignant when ppl go thats a really nice looking bass! what is it? and then I say "It's a cort" and they sorta go "oh..." almost as if they are disappointed. Corts are surprisingly good for their pricerange.

Am I In?

Proud Curbow 6 owner here. Count me in this club.

*Happy to belong, finally!*

I chose the Cort over a used CS Fender and a Corvette Standard... Walked into the music store with $1500 cash in my pocket to buy a new 5 string, didn't expect to like 6s so much, and walked out with about $1K left... in 2000, to the amazement of the whole place... Take the price tags off, and I would have paid the price of the Corvette for the tone of the Cort.

:D
