The Duo-Bronco is Alive!!!

Finally, after years of thinking about it, and a few days of effort, my Duo-Sonic bass is complete(ish).

I’ve always wondered why the folks at FMIC haven’t tried this. Guess they don’t see a market for it, and I’m not sure there is one either. IMO, it sounds like a short scale jazz bass, so there’s that.

Anyway, here’s the demo video. Decide for yourselves!

I would definitely buy something like that (had I the need!)-the possibilities are endless with all the nice guitar pickups out there.

Do not think there is a "market," but it's more interesting to *me* than, say, a single gold foil pickup Bronco (or similar.) I like your idea more than a Jazz bass, though I admit I would use the neck pickup sparingly/as needed.

Thanks so much for sharing!

Had some nice sun this morning, so I took a few pics.

Gibson wiring in the old days had that thing where you turn down one knob to zero and all sound goes away. There's a simple fix for that.
Your mod sounds excellent and I attribute what I like about it to the addition of the neck PUP. I've loaned my Bronco to a friend and I was in an Easter church service this morning where she played my bass.
If it were to be my #1 bass, I'd consider investing in the needed parts to do your mod. I'm quite impressed.

That’s good to know! Do you happen to know what that fix is? Not sure what to google to find the answer.

Fun project! It sounds like you've got some pretty useful tones in there. If all Broncos were like that I might actually want one! It looks great, too.

You need to swap the connection to the sweeper of the pots. Right now, the sweeper (middle lug) is connected to the output jack on both pots. When the pot is turned, the output is gradually grounded and, since both pots are connected to the output jack, turning down either pot will affect both. You need to switch the connections so that the hot wire from the pickup is connected to the sweeper and the output is on the end lug. When you do this there is always resistance between the output jack and ground and each pickup can be turned down individually. Make sense?

This wiring should solve your problem:

You should only need to switch two wires on each volume pot.
