I'm in love with your Jackson!

You know, I just bought my t-bird because it was $100 and I really was thinking of giving it to my g/f because after all...."I'm a P-bass man, and T-birds just aren't my thing".

So I've had it like 2 weeks now, and I frikkin' love this thing!

I'm playing it a lot more than my P-bass and I can't put it down...
I'm not to thrilled about it being the "goth" version and if I had my druthers, I'd have gotten a burst model....but hey it was super cheap.:p

Anyway, this el-cheapo Epiphone T-bird is totally changing my outlook and now I think I only want to play T-birds....is that wrong?

WRONG? hahaha not IMO. If you like your P obviously you still have it, and now you have 2 of the most famous basses out there, 2 totally different looking and sounding machines for your musical selections...best of both worlds if you ask me....

P.S if your in love with the J-bird, that's cool, but don't start sending me flowers in order to get a little "hands-on playtime" with it...lol I have a few P and J basses in my family, just not made by Fender.... I like POPLAR wood, not Ash or Alder!

Funny you should mention that. I got this goth as a project, namely to see if it's really mahogany under the primer job. If the grain is promising underneath I'm gonna go with either blue, green, or gray penetrating dye stain or aniline dye- for supreme grain poppage. Followed by a few coats of pre-cat nitro. If not, I'll shoot a solid color. I'm on the fence with the pick guard...actually prefer the trad white but the price was right on this particular goth.

....there you go I'm always surprised why Epi never made an all shiny black version with chrome hardware, a black guard with a white bird cut in it even for 100-150 more for the chrome--that would look sweet. Custom is custom, but a factory model like that--oh ya.

Pellum blue is what it is called? Didn't know that. Think mine sounds like a wool sweater but I can't seem to let it go or even sell it because no one seems to want it. I will take a club number if you want to give me one.

I'll give you 50 bucks for it =D

I love the powder blue T-birds for some reason, but I don't have real money to lay down for one.

is that a picture illusion, or are the pickups spread out further than a regular epibird, and further away from the bridge to begin with so the neck pickup is closer to the neck??

No illusion, it's stock, It's only been in the house since last week, I need at least a month to change it up,Heh! The red one is my build, I placed the p/u's to lay under my right hand, so they appear close and I'm sure they're closer than stock.

thanks red5, the reason I was asking is my 3 birds ALL have different pickup spacing, and I found that on the one that has the spacing the furthest apart, that's the one that has the most tonal differential control.

I haven't used the Goth enough times yet to appreciate the difference. But so far it's way different than my EMG set on the red one. I grew up on a P bass so anything with 2 Pups is extravagent to me.

Here she is with a Hipshot bridge and a Hipshot D tuner.
Does anyone have any suggestions on replacement pickups? Either Active or Passive but they MUST look and fit good.
the HS bridge looks so much more "normal" than the weird 3 point OEM's

someone will post on what pups they recommend. I never had the need to change mine, since I have other basses, and I want it to sound the way it does. I changed my bridge, and as a result is sustains a lot better, and I'm happy for now :D

I like the new bridge, I thought the 3 point bridge looked odd. (LOL) I think it sounds alot more "alive"

This is my first time with the Gibson 3 point. At first glance, It has less adjustability than say a stock Fender inasmuch as you cannot adjust height on individual strings. That doesn't seem odd at all from the company that gave us the Tune-O-Matic, and the ubiquitous "Stop" tailpiece for guitar. I went to Jack Casady's website and used his specs for setting up the bridge and have gotten to a good place with it. I'm just gonna call it "Archaic" and leave it on the bass, after all it is original design and for better or worse it lends itself to the overall T-Birdness of the instrument. That is also my new word for today....T-Birdness.......try it. It rolls off the tongue. T-Birdness......
