Fender strings were designed to fit Fender basses. With other brands of the same gauge, I may have to pull the bridge saddles way back or push them way forward to the extreme edges of the bridge plate when I set the intonation. With Fender strings, I can keep the bridge saddles closer to the center of the bridge plate without squeezing the springs completely flat or extending past the point where there is spring tension.

I sold my CV jazz, and the Pre-2010 7250 40-100 was laying around few weeks.
Yesterday, after I clean my practice room I found the CV jazz stock 7250ML , so, I put both old and new formula 7250 in my CV pbass.
The new formula 7250 feel stiffer than old one, I agree they are different gauge, but both E and A string is same gauge, still stiffer with the new 7250. And I found the nickel wrap on new 7250 is less smooth than old 7250.
String noise is clear visible with new 7250.
About the tone, they are different too.
New 7250 more bite , especially on hi mid, I need to roll off lot amout of tone to get round P vibe; otherwise, old 7250 is warmer, bigger sound on low-mid, I can just let the tone value around 70%, need fatter sound just play close to neck side, need focus tight sound, back to bridge site.
New 7250 is better focus tone , old one is little rough and raw.just like the tone character between Sadow flat and fender flat.
Old 7250L is really fun to play.string to string tension is better balance than new 7250ML. Because it sound warmer and Bigger, the 40G string dint sound thin at all.
I will let the old 7250 stay in my pbass foe a while.

This makes sense. Now that the Fender 7250s are made by D'Addario, they feel and sound more like the XL Nickels than the old Fenders, though some may argue the 7250s are still made to Fender's own specs.
I believe that New 7250 better in mix, as well as D'addario Nickel XL, but
they lost some colour and soul that P vibe should.
For those who interested with the old set sound, try DR nickel lo rider, if you dint care their stiffness.
After reading this thread there is one thing I know for sure, I'm sticking with my Ernie Ball's and D'Addario's. D'As on my Fenders/Squiers and Danelectro and EBs for the Ric copy, I got a set of Carvin Flats (GHS?) on the Ibanez, great set of flats for short $$, took forever to break 'em in, was almost ready to give up on them til one day all of a sudden it just started sound "right", probably never change them.
It's a far larger club than some might think! Fender basses are the best selling basses on the planet. Yes? Yes! Fender 7250M's are the most strung stock string. In fact simply by virtue of being the best selling stock bass string in the world wide market place makes the Fender 7250M stringset the best selling electric bass guitar stringset in the world today.
Does anyone have verifiable factual market wide electric bass guitar string sales figures that they wish to share?
No, but I will say this, They're reliable and sound great. They're reasonably priced, and I simply don't see a lot of complaints about them. They're on my Dimension. I replaced them after about 2 months after buying that bass, but I put them back on because I had no reason to replaced them initially.
They are like Fender basses, reliable, sound great, reasonably priced, not a ton of complaints, and we always go back to it after the affair with another bass is over.

I use the 7250L on my 34" scale 4 strings. .040-.100 rules! On my 34" scale 5 string the .040-.115 set the B string is too light and the .125 isn't available as an individual string. For now I've got Dunlops on there.
