The Fender Bassman 100T thread

To back up Freight Train, years ago I paired a Fender 410 with a Fender 115 in a stack but the 115 would always fart out too early. In that particular case the 410 was preferable to two fifteens IMO. Plus the fifteen was getting half the wattage output of the amp which was too much for it, while the 410 could easily handle its half of the output then plus some - hence the farting of the 115.
So far as tens versus fifteens go, I used to be a tens man through and through but some of the new fifteen cabs are right up there. My (sadly no longer produced) Bergantino 215 is more open, faster and punchier than many 610 cabs I have played - but it does have a 6" driver as well (incidentally it sounds fabulous with the 100T). I like the Fender Neo 610 cab with the 100T because it does "move more air" - as Freight Train puts it 60" of speaker cone versus 15" or even 40" of a 410 suits the 100T nicely because in the rare occasion that 100 tube watts are not enough you still get some apparent boost from the extra cones mocving more air. Hope this helps.

Yes a big help. im about to throw some big dough down and just dont want to have any regrets. its pricey but totally sounds worth every penny. especially having 18 months to pay it off w/o a dime of interest, the 610 is it. Then to have some covers made. Oh yea and Tim +1 on the 100t over SB300. Maybe if there was a BM200.

I love the sound of my 100T through two 3015's
It gets loud enough for anything I have needed it to do so far.

Tube amps + good 15's = sweeeeet!

I have not had a chance to try new Fender 610 but I did play mine through a SWR Goliath SR. 610 and some nice 410's. To me the 10's just don't do it.
I had it plugged into a fearfull 151566 and I thought I was in heaven. The only problem I have with the 151566 is you can not set a tube head on top of it. I would love to try it with a Berg 215. I plan on building two of JohnK's 215 cabs this winter using 3015's. He designed them so a SVT sits on top. I think 4 15's that weigh about 80 pounds should do whatever I will ever need and look awesome doing it.

I never thought I’d purchase and use Fender bass amplification. This new stuff is simply amazing.

I liked the 100T and the 6-10 neo so much, that I got two 1-15 neo cabs.

I was very impressed with the two 1-15 cabs. Decided to get the monster 300 Super Bassman!

Here are some of the ‘fellows’ I love playing through this exceptional equipment.

I’ll tell you one thing. My Gibsons never sounded so good!

BTW – thanks Freight Train for your informative and extremely useful posts!!

How does my Ampeg gear compare to my Fender gear - it’s different shades of excellence.

BTW - I run my Ampeg B2RE (not shown) through the two 2-10 Ampeg cabs and the tone is very good.

If you’re undecided about this new Fender gear, try it out, you won’t be disappointed.

BTW – all stock tubs in everything I have. No complaints.

You're the man! :hyper:

Please tell me more about the 15s. How do the two 15s compare to the 610 in tone, volume and response?

A bit more bottom endish, but clear and tight.

I originally purchased one to see how I'd like it. After having it for several weeks, I got the second.

I've never been one to mix speaker sizes, however, the 6-10 neos and the two 1-15 neos sound absolutly incredable together, through both the 100T of the SB 300.

I don't normally run all cabs together.

I'm very glad Fender did the 2-4-8 ohm combination. That along with all the other features makes these one of the best buys on the market.

Fender did a fantastic job!!

I was really impressed. Like I said, I never thought I'd use Fender amplifiaction over Ampeg. This new gear is over the top.

Hdracer, I am very familiar with the SWR Goliath 410 and 610 cabs, and I can assure you the Fender neo 610 is voiced totally differently. Where the SWRs can be a mid scooped with their tweeters the Fender is remarkably flat and solid sounding - the horn crossover is smooth and unnoticeable. Great to have a horn that is not voiced for frequencies which don't really interest me as a bassist.

Quite the collection you got there !!! Me too, I find that the Ric shines through the Fender Super Bassman and the 410 Neo !

hey guys maybe somebody can help me understand "to move more air". Like the way the 610 is said to move more air. So ive been looking at the 610 and at the moment i can get a good financing deal on it. but have been thinking about the 115 to pair with my goliath III. both cabs are 8 ohm so theres no prob there. I would buy matching grill cloth for the goliath so everything would be a pretty match. But looks are the least of my concern. Would the 410 goliath and 115 paired together move air like the 610? do u think 410/115 would be more versatile then the 610? Thanks!!!!

To add to this, I think the engine analogy makes a lot of sense. To get more output, you need more displacement -- a 50cc scooter has no chance against a 1200cc Harley.

For speakers the displacement is Vd, which is the surface area times the equivalent of stroke, Xmax. More/bigger cylinders = more/bigger speakers and more stroke = more Xmax.

More area trends to mean more sensitive, so louder with lower wattage. Vd matters when you're pumping a lot of power into the speakers.

"Quickness" of speakers is also a function of magnet strength, which may overcome the additional mass.

Also keep in mind, modern speakers are round, so 15" vs 40" doesn't make sense. It's really approx 130 sq in vs 210 sq in.

Anyway, hopefully this helps a bit with conceptualizing it. I'll go back to lurking/drooling over everyone's sweet sweet amp...

Gigged with my 100T for the second time last night using my 2Markbass 102p traveller cabs. Had a nice vintage channel EQ which I believe was close to flat and a fairly aggressive active channel which I flipped to for a few songs. I found a nice mid setting I liked playing with the mid level and frequency and had the bass boost pulled out. I want to add the 4 ten Fender neo cab in the next few months. Anything more than that would be overkill for the size of the rooms I am playing. What a great amp.

You will not regret the 410 Neo.... I had the MarkBass 210 as well before like you.... They may not see much use after you get the 410 to be honest !!! Although they are great cabs as well !
The Fender super Bassman is a killer with the 410 and I assume it will be the same with the 100T ! Enjoy !

Turlu, the other thing that amazed me was that I used it on the 25 watt setting all night! Granted we are only a 3 piece band with a lead singer, but it was plenty loud.
