Hasn't crushed any of my dreams. I mean it looks like a quality box, and the guy has a big rep; but, that and a couple of bucks will get you either a coffee or a glass of beer, depending on the time of day.

I get the reputation thing, but why that translates into divinity is a bit of a stretch. Plus, even if it sounds good, you can't get one. So what's the point? I'll stick with my Demeter stuff, thank you very much.

Video demos attract outsiders to the cult. Something Zuul does not like.

I feel the same about Broughton. Not a knock on Broughton pedals though. I'm sure it's great stuff and more power to the cats in that Broughton thread, but they're way more dedicated than I am. I quit riding the Talkbass Hype Train a few years ago and also don't feel the need to compete for pedals anymore. Demos (or lack of them) does influence my pedal buying decisions as well.

I shouldn't need good karma or have to apply for a pedal like applying for a job and hope I get one. I had similar issues with Iron Ether pedals.

Completely disagree. I have had every Broughton pedal. Its kind of like spaceman.

I know Josh is building more ssdi's. But like any small business person (me included) you build slowly so you can have longevity. It makes no sense to quit a great day job because someone is pee'd off they didn't get to buy a new release. And please don't misinterpret that, I wasn't referring to you.

There are pedals available on the Broughton site, but the ssdi sold out. I find it funny that people never ripped on Fea labs a few years ago. They were in a similar boat. I can tell you, and as a pedal builder myself, Josh's stuff is super high quality and worth the wait. Have I loved them all, nope, of course not. But there are 4 or 5 that are just golden.

At least its not like spaceman, where the pedals are released on Monday at 399 and Wed they are $750...

$690 is very reasonable if its anywhere near as good as the P15

If i had better tech skills id make some demos, maybe i'll give it a whirl

I've seen most of those back when I was actually following the Broughton thread, but of the 7 pedals in those demos, only the Josh Wah and HPF/LPF are still offered and I have several envelope filter and H/LPF options. The rest are all in the archive section, including the Signal Cypher.

I'd never turn down checking out a Cypher of course (or ANY pedal from any manufacturer at least once... ask me about the Vox Trike. lol), but the last two Signal Cyphers that showed up in the classifieds went in seven minutes and one minute respectively. A single minute. There are plenty of other great pedals that sound just as good without the headache of having to search for an elusive unicorn. I currently own both the Future Impact and C4 that have set the synth bar really high, and they have presets and MIDI (both of which are features that are required in my current main gigs). So no "one sound at a time" synth pedal is going to be able to compete, especially when the stars have to align to get one. :)

To bring the thread back to preamps...

For those that enjoy Tube Rolling (that term I learned from this thread...

:cool:), what are some favorite sources for tubes? TubeDepot and TheTubeStore seem to be the biggest. Or they're the first that show up in google searches anyway. We also have a local shop that I've gotten a couple from in the past my Shuttle and BlueTube. But I'm curious as to where the experts here are getting their tubes!
