The Effectrode will change your life. I don't say that about gear - especially effects as this is the only "effect" I use - but it was such a noticeable difference in my sound both FOH and IEM that I can't imagine being without it.

I've not had the chance to try an Oracle - but was curious if the effects send/return on the Trilobite would be an interesting place to hang something like an Nightowl Edison - allowing me to kick in a tubey vibe for certain basses and tunes.

Have never tried anything like that - not sure any of you have - but given the sophistication of experience here with preamps, I'm kind of hoping you guys would weigh in.... Thanks for all the great info - fun thread.

Now that's ironic. I was thinking almost the exact same thing with a Trilobite and a Oracle. A very expensive but theoretically awesome rig with a super clean and fast modern eq or a fatter old school vibe. I actually emailed Trickfish to ask if a flat eq would pass through a basically unaffected tone of the tube preamp when necessary.

The first one seems a bit rounder/smoother, while the second one seems a bit punchier, like there's just a bit more coming through in the attack. Dunno if that makes sense. Not a massive difference that I can hear (on the good speakers in the living room); both sound great.

I seriously considered the Oracle - but my use case is such that it would be overkill to have the tone stack there and the one on the Trilobite - particularly given that the Trilobite has two channels. And the Oracle is significantly bigger, needs AC power, etc. What I'm imagining is setting one Trilobite channel up for "non-tube" and then EQ'ing the other for use with the Edison and kicking the effects loop in when I use that channel. The Edison seems to fit the idea perfectly "theoretically" - it will just be up to what reality plays out to be.

I did have a nice email exchange with Seth at Night Owl - and he commented that most of his Edison's have gone to TB folks.

I'll let you guys know how it all plays out when I get things worked out. I'm still learning a ton on the preamp/pedal side generally - but after playing for 45 years, I'm pretty clear on what I like sound wise. I'm hoping this gives me all the options I'd like...

@Ryno1330 I'd be interested in what you hear back from Trickfish if you don't mind sharing that....

I will let you know. It is definitely overkill. I play guitar also and have an awesome high end 12ax7 boost called a Kingsley Page that I would try first but my guess would be the low end wouldn't be there.

I recently acquired this ACME Pre Amp connected to a powered Bag End 15" cab. Really liking the simplicity of it. Input and Output controls only. I use the tone control from my basses. It sounds great.

Another high-end preamp I'm interested in is Chandler's REDD.47 Tube Pre... Sounds good on the sparse demos Sweetwater has and though it's a pretty-penny it'd be interesting to see reactions around here.
