The Great Bass Preamp/DI Comparison

@MascisMan @JKos @chadhargis As I said earlier, I have a friends NuX MLD on loan for a bit. Me hearing that something makes a funny noise when you apply Phantom Power is like a wet paint sign to a young boy.
So Yep, I turned the Phantom on with the MLD plugging into my Yamaha MG06 desk, gain turn off, volume down etc and then slowly turned them up. No funny sound. Nothing. turned it on and off, plugged and unplugged the xlr, no change in tone, no strange sound.

This is a great result, but I'm not sure why?

This just in... dated 10/13/2003

I can't tell what the tube is. Says "Made in Britain" and has a "96" written in sharpie. I can't see anything else on it.

I don't remember the Blue Tube being too difficult to switch tubes on. You should be able to pull it out pretty easily and take a better look...?

5sg.

I did take it out but it still didn't yield any more info. Sounds good though. Looks pretty new I don't think it has seen much use, so I doubt the stock tube would have been messed with.

No idea. All I know is, I was running sound a few weeks back at church. I let a guy borrow my NuX MLD. I forgot I was running phantom to the bass channel, he clicked it on, and everyone on stage immediately yanked their ears out and looked at me.

Whoops. Sorry guys.

Yeah...it's a loud horrible thumping noise.

My phantom power suppressor came in today and it works fantastically. I'll just leave it plugged into the NuX. Only problem is that it is about 3" long so I'll have to remove it to put the board in the case.

I'm a big fan of the LA-1A into the Particle Accelerator. I play at a local church every few weeks, so I will use this combo in the morning. Looking forward to hearing it thru my IEM.

Despite the positioning the chain is Tuner > LA-1A > P.A. > Radial SB2

Clever trick with the velcro to hide the wires on the back

Does anybody have suggestions where to find some free cab IR's to try in the NuX?
Thanks
Search for the "Cab IR megathread" or something like that. Maybe "impulse response megathread." There's a handful of free places out there. Shift Line has a "pay what you want" pack, which are excellent. Dr. Bonkers has a free "in this together" pack, that sounds great as well. And there are maybe 1-2 more that I know of, but can't remember the names.
