The Great Bass Preamp/DI Comparison

I've read through half of the thread, and I'm wondering if anyone would have a suggestion for a di/preamp that'd sound different from my GK. I was thinking of something with tubes, possibly. I'm not big on distortion, but I'd like something with some overdrive à la Motown. While the SLO, Tube Injection and Nobel sound nice, they're a bit out of my price range. The Le Bass sounds interesting, but a bit too distorted. I tried the non DI version of the Darkglass Vintage and I liked it, but no tubes... Any suggestions?

I'll probably try one of these someday:

Crazy Tube Circuits Locomotive

I also kind of want to try a Way Huge Green Rhino. No actual tube, but from what I've heard online, does a pretty convincing tube breakup.

Also, EBS Valvedrive.

The LeBass can do clean quite well. It has two channels...a clean and a dirty.

I understand the budget issue, but I've toyed with a bunch of preamps (go back to the beginning of the thread and you can see all I've used). The SLO really is quite a bargain for what you get.

As Killer Beaz would say:

you've been through so many I've lost count :roflmao:

Last I read, you had sold the Nobel for the tube injection. Are you using the SLO now?

There must be something wrong with my Mozz preamp. I have to have the gain and volume almost maxed to reach unity. This is my second one .the first one didn't work at all . Hmmmm. Maybe I should send this one back. I really like it .But feel like I need to push it too hard
Sorry to hear that. QC isn't that great I guess? Being a relatively small company, I'm surprised.

How do you like your Torpedo Cab? Even though I swore off cab sims like a week ago, I'm considering trying one for Black Friday.
I only just got it a few days ago but so far so good. Out of the stock cabs, the Eden 410 is my favourite. Keen to find some more cabinets to download and test out. I especially love the power tube simulation. Takes it to the next level.
