I like the darker pink shades that lean toward lavender or purple. Light pink is too Pepto-Bismol for me.

I wouldn't say pink basses are any more popular than any other color, nor should it be an issue or something worth discussing. It's like if I asked why so many people like playing black guitars?
The real issue is if someone actually has a problem with someone having something pink.
End of the day, it is all preference - That's all there is to it. Some will like the look. Some wont.
I personally play the bass below. It's a Tetsuya signature. I love the look, how striking it is. The sound is amazing and does everything I need it to. It looks amazing in photos as well. Someone else might not like the look but I love it.

one of my favorite basses is a Shell Pink (fender corral pink equivalent) G&L jazz bass. I got it because at the time I was in a Madonna cover band. But it has a great vintage vibe works for pretty much anything that I don't need to be 'heavy' for.
Yes, pink is a great color along with other colors. I have a pink strat and for that particular instrument, it is my dream color.
I get people don't like certain colors, and that's fine. For me the color and finish type that looks good depends on the instrument.

I was halfway typing out something completely witty and stupid before I stopped myself to rethink my comment on this topic. So, yes I wasn't a huge fan of pink basses up until a few years ago when I started really liking vintage instruments. I must say Shell Pink is probably one of my favorite vintage colors of all time. There's just something so different and unique about that specific color that works well with guitars and basses in my opinion. Likewise, I grew up in the 80's where neon colors were daily life. Not so much of a fan of bright pink but then again seeing Billy Sheehan with a modded pink Yamaha BB back in the DRL days was absolutely awesome to me. Anyways, take that how you will.
I have no issue with a pink bass. It's really not much different than wearing a pink dress shirt.
I’m not a fan of coloured instruments. I like wood. It’s no big deal though, just a preference like I don’t wear pink shirts or trousers. I would on the other hand, wear a pink jacket. Go figure.
