I walked into the local music store just after the release of the Squier Musicmaster basses and I tried one in coral pink. It wasn't bright pink but had a bit of an amber tint to it. I liked the bass and went home and thought about it. I decided to buy it the next day but when I returned it had already been sold and I've never seen another. If I saw one today at what I consider a reasonable price I'd buy it.

If I didn't have two modded Broncos already, I would get one of these to mod.
I would not have done white knobs and pup, and I would change the bridge.
Also, I saw a rosewood neck on eBay that was pretty cool.

Speaking just for myself, I myself am not homophobic, but I can't help but wonder what would happen if I pulled a pink bass out while in the presence of homophobes. They can be a nasty lot sometimes
Maybe? Depends how it played. I probably wouldn't buy one because it's just not my thing, but it works for a lot of people, so...
Sure, pink isn’t a problem. I’m mostly pink myself, especially with a little sun exposure. 
I would rock a neon pink bass, no question.

As for the F shell pink and variants, they're a bit like a shandy that's much more lemonade than beer.
I love Shell Pink. It has typically been underrepresented as a Fender custom color. Vintage examples are very rare. Flea has one of the few known Shell Pink basses from the 60s. Their popularity today may be because of the perceived rarity. There has obviously been a pent up demand, since I notice people get excited whenever a model is available in that color. I think it’s cool!

I had a BC Rich Wave bass in that exact color (purple/magenta over quilted maple), it was gorgeous, but I've never seen a photo of it or any other one with that same finish.
