Would I? I was in a short lived band called Hot PinK! in the 80's. It was darn near a requirement!
Would you play a Pink Bass ? Yes.
Why are they so popular ? I don't know and don't really care.
Why do major manufactures even make them: They make $$$

My favorite #1 bass is affectionately known as "Magenta Monster." Depending on the light, it looks anywhere from wine red to a dark magenta. It also has a "metal" type shape, yet comfortably nestles against me better than any other bass.
So, yeah, I would 100% play a pink bass.

That's beautiful, but it's magenta, a.k.a. fuscia named after the plant with that color flower. Magenta is not part of the visible spectrum of light, it's equal parts red and blue wavelengths. pretty crazy, huh?
I don't usually get to pick the color when I buy an instrument used. But some might be a deal killer - like pink. (Not a real big fan of seafoam green, either.)
But really, any color that's going to distract & create unnecessary conversation. I already get enough of that with fanned frets.

I'd take a Pink PB or JB over a exotic wood amoeba shaped boutique bass any day.

Depends on the shade of pink. Salmon pink or shell pink, yes. Dayglo pink, no.
A friend owned a shell pink ESP fiver. Pink body, neck, and headstock. It was PINK. I’d borrow it from time to time and the ladies loved it. When I played my clear coated ash body jazz I didn’t exist, but the pink fiver drew them like flies. Never tried to ferret out any deeper meaning (if any) for reaction to different bass colors but the pink one drew the ladies and the ash one didn't.
I have no problem with the right color pink. This thumb bass looks orange to me with pink iridescence.
Would I? Yep! I don't even need to think about the answer.
In fact, I've always wanted one, but the "right" one has been elusive thus far.

I think as bass collecting degenerates, we naturally want funkier, more unique looking basses. I think the other reason is because Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd) has became more visible on social media lately and his bass (Betsy, once owned by Entwistle; pictured) is the burgundy mist (almost pink) '64 Jazz. He's even collaborated with the Bass Centre to put out a reissue Betsy bass, which is only $550. I'd love a burgundy mist or shell pink bass, not Pepto Bismol pink though.
I usually paint the inside of the control cavities pink. This is visible only under the covers.
