I have a huge question to ask the good people here at T.B.

A mind shattering thing to converse about.
May have to go to the Dr after hearing even rumours of this question.

Here it is!
Would you play a Pink Bass ? Why are they so popular ? Why do major manufactures even make them and why are they considered cool?

If you can help me please understand these question I would appreciate it.

P.S. In order to read this question properly, please do so with the appropriate amount of sarcasm.

Well... Here's how things are in my little world;
1. I'm very left handed, so the basses that I can buy are... well, not exactly thick upon the ground;
2. I have to buy my basses on-line, pretty much 99% of the time;
3. Most of the basses that fill spots in my 23-bass herd are used; basses like Rick 4001's and aluminum necked Kramers always are; so,
4. If I see a bass that will fill an open spot in my herd, it's almost certainly going to be used and on-line; and, if I don't buy it? Odds are, there won't be another one coming along any time soon; or like my left handed Gretsch Broadkaster? I'll probably never, ever see one again...
All of which is to say - YES, if I found a pink bass that filled a spot in my herd - especially a very hard to fill one, like a short scale, left handed neck-thru bass? I'd buy the stupid thing in a heartbeat, regardless of what color it was. And I'd be happy playing it, too...

Why are they so popular ?

When I read this, I wonder what data you have that suggests that pink basses are popular. If you go into your local music store, and there's always one on the wall, consider the possibility that it's been there for years - because it hasn't sold. Which means it isn't popular.

I'm not a fan of painted basses in general (though I do have one that is painted satin black). I'm much more interested in a bass made from piece of wood that looks good enough that you'd be silly to cover it with paint.

In Italy, pink is the color of champions.

I think Fender’s shell pink is a great color.

And I still have some regret about missing that gorgeous pink Dingwall AB 6er with birdseye fingerboard that sold here about a year ago. Someone has a pink tone monster in the stable.

So yeah, I’d own/play a pink bass. The Mononeon bass, not so much.

The leader of the Giro D'Italia (Italian Tour de France ) wears a pink jersey. You have to be tough and resilient to wear that color. Just saying

I had a BC Rich Wave bass in that exact color (purple/magenta over quilted maple), it was gorgeous, but I've never seen a photo of it or any other one with that same finish.

The Rainbow Trout finish has been a Geoff Gould signature color scheme for a long time. It is a fine compliment to the carbon fiber/graphite neck layering. I've had it called pink before. I just like the coloring and the sound is not one with which to argue.

I have a pink paisley tele bass reissue (blue floral too) and I've rocked it many times.

I have no problem with playing a pink bass.

I did a resto on this little Harmony bass. The color is a bit lighter than Fender's "Shell Pink" and is just beautiful.
Prolly do another in this shade of pink.

I’d play a pink bass, partly because I am a middle aged guy who looks like he should be wearing bib overalls and holding a chainsaw and a pitchfork. The visual juxtaposition would amuse me. And maybe annoy my bandmates, which would further amuse me.

Aside from all that, I’d play a shell pink bass or guitar just because I think it’s a cool guitar color. But all my current instruments are plain Jane white or black.

If anyone has a desire for pink why should there be an issue? Too girlie?? I thought we were past that!! Traditional lady bassists can strut their stuff along side Rue Paul and the likes. And fellas who aren't insecure about their sexuality can prove it. Nothing wrong with being in the pink.
