I typically solder the cap to either the grounding lug or the grounded lug on the volume pot; either works all depends on how things fit.

Ugghhhhh...... Got totally bogged down in the whole Tru-Oil experience. I had it all up to a nice satin sheen, but no.. have to buff it up a little. Bam! Buffed right through the oil finish on the front. Had to re-do it, but the pollen that permeates every surface on Cape Cod found its way into the finish. Repeatedly. I'm not entirely happy with the result, I think I'll take another crack at the front finish in the fall when the pollen subsides, but I am well and truly OUT OF TIME on this one. My son graduates from Mass Maritime Academy in two weeks, so it's pencils down.
Here's where it stands, all I have left to do is filing slots deeper in the brass nut, a tedious trial and error process. and finish wiring it. Might need some advice when I get to that.

Beautiful! Except for one thing - you might want to install some pickups before you try to wire it.

Looks AMAZING! Sorry if this has been asked before, but....how's that neck profile? Is it more vintage Ric (thinner) or more modern Ric (fatter)? Looks more modern from the pics, but hard to tell for sure.
Even if the finish isn’t perfect (and believe me, I understand. All I see in my stuff is the flaws.) that is a beeeyouteful bass.
Beautiful. Despite the flaws you may see, your son's gonna love it.

Definitely a fatter profile. I'm gradually working up the nerve to go thinner, I have 3/16" of wood under the DA trussrod at the thinnest (under first fret), maybe next time I'll cheat it to 1/8". Scary stuff, if you see that trussrod come through on a Ric build... it's toast! The Hossenfeffer I had more a of a "C" profile, and I left a bit too much wood right below the fingerboard edges, so it feels a little chunky, this one I tried to roll that into the radius for a bit more "D" profile. The Primate Can Be Taught!
On nut filing, what's the rule of thumb for the string height above the notches in the nut? You can see here I filed the E string slot down for .022" clearance over the first fret, but haven't touched the rest yet. The E is barely proud of the nut. I could go back and file the top of the nut down so half the string is exposed above the nut, but does it really matter?
I blame you, Clegg, for all the pain and suffering that binding entailed! (it was worth it). Almost a shame I have to cover part of it up with a TRC (cream backpainted clear plastic with the Hossenfeffer logo decal showing through), but it will look cool. I found a cream paint that matches the binding really well.Beautiful. Despite the flaws you may see, your son's gonna love it.

For what it's worth, I sanded through to the truss rod on one of my builds. It's been stable for over a year now. No issues other than aesthetic. I don't want to think about how much wood is below the rest of the truss rod. Though I do have 2 aluminum stiffeners as well. Hard to guess how much wood is under those.
