The Ibanez Club (Part 5)

New to TalkBass but have been reading posts here for a while.
I have a few Ibanez basses and would like to join this group.
Primarily have Ergodynes as I actually have a thing for the Luthite bodies on these basses - a bit of a minority preference I know.

In order of preference:
EDC700
EDA905
EDB400

Would like to know from anyone who owns the EDC710 (the single Triple-coil pickup bass) how it compares to the EDC700. Might have an opportunity to pick one up.

Um. Hey, guys? What strings should I put on this sucker? On my 305 I really liked the D'Addario prosteels, but at least they were the same gauge as the stock strings--45 to 105.

The 5-string set of prosteel lights is not exactly the same as the SR505. The 505 comes with 45-65-85-105-125. On the set of prosteels I just bought, the low B is 130. Should I consult the luthier about the wisdom of this and about making any neck/bridge/nut adjustments needed should I go ahead?

First, congratz for the SR ;)
Second, don't use a heavier gauge set because the nut on the SRs is cut to fit the fatory strings. You can modify the nut, but you won't be able to use lighter strings again because it will rattle.
HOWEVER afaik the factory strings are 45 - 130, not 125 ;)

Congrats!

Lots of ways to go with your string dilemna, Scott.

My choice was to buy multiple different B 'nickel' strings to try, and I already had/have spare sets of 4-string (45-105) Lo Rider nickel strings. That option would give you the 45-105 strings, and several B strings to experiment with. You've seen Internet sites that sell individual B strings?

Hi, I am new to TalkBass and quite novice as a bassist - even though I've been having my cherry red RD500 for about 5 years now. It's the last year or so that I have been seriously playing.

So, my RD500 is the only bass I possess (and seems it will be the only one for a long time, since my finances are crappy), but I love it nevertheless. I find it to be a great instrument for such a low price.

I have an SRA505 - not exactly what you have, but close. I have had two sets of strings on since the factory set - one from Circle K and the other DR Fatbeams. Both sets had a .130 B-string and have been great over the last year and a half. I think you are okay from my experience, however, I am not an expert. ;)

I have to get in on this. I have had many Ibanez's. 3 BTB's, loved them. But now I am back to my original bass. The Roadstar II RB850.. Cream... More like butter. Probably be the only bass I will ever play again. Oh and I also have an RB650 sunburst / maple neck. I even at one time had a cat named Ibanez.

Just wipe it from time to time with a clean guitar polish cloth (like that yellow Dunlop makes or anything of the sort), and that's it. And be careful when playing, that freakin' finish can easily get scratched or peeled off...

I figured lemon oil for the rosewood fretboard. I have three guitars now that have one, so I should probably get some lemon oil on hand. As far as the body, I might stick to minimally invasive techniques. A damp, lint-free cloth and dry it immediately. Or maybe just a dry one if it's not too dirty. I just want to make sure I shouldn't be treating it with wax a couple times a year or anything like that.
