I'm not sure, but I think Kerry Lacy bought Larry's bass. I know Kerry has a 19mm Smith model.
For what its worth it plays amazing.... and for a 19mm neck it works just perfect for me... I love the wide necks, feels more natural to me...

No offense, but this makes NO sense to me. NONE. If you loved the bass that much, why not get another? First of all, it's extremely unlikely the theft would happen again... it really is a rarity!! Second, if you found an instrument you loved that much, why the heck would you not make sure you had one? I can tell you Ken Smith can absolutely reproduce the magic. Guaranteed. His attention to detail will assure that.
Bottom line, I just don't see ANY reason for you to deny yourself on this.

I am 99% sure it is 18 mm spacing. On the DIP switches I wish Ken had the frequency published for each switch. Does anybody have that info. I know he says he does it by ear but I would rather know what frequency I am changing. I would also like to see the default settings.
I know on his forum he was talking some crazy stuff about cutting the mids to get teh bass to cut in the mix. Crazy IMO, but maybe what he meant was cut the mids and boost teh treble/bass to fill out the mix since in general they are mid monsters.

Well, i'm an American living in the UK. Actually to me it was worth it as i ordered it direct from Ken and i used British Pounds to purchase it. So in actually i came off better because of the pound to the dollar conversion rate. I then bought a plane ticket for a family relative to bring it over to England for me in a Levy Gig bag... I didnt want to risk the bass getting stolen by the UPS man/woman...

Maybe it's the 5k he won't have to spend on a Smith again. Thats why I swear by these 2 words: instrument insurance.
I seriously doubt you'll ever see numbers. He spends a LOT of time "not answering" the (many) questions he gets about the specific frequencies. I think a lot of it has to do with this comment from him on his forum, which is what I was beginning to suspect anyway...
"I know somewhere someplace there are some numbers written down for the bass and Treble but the Mids work differently with the shape of the 'notch' in the cut or boost. Honestly, when I chose the frequency settings, I did it totally by Ear."

My first Smith was a GN with 18mm. It sounded great (of course) but felt just a "little" tight under my right hand. Now I'm on a 19mm EG and I couldn't be happier with it.
I adjusted my DIPs also. I have no idea what the frequencies are but, by boosting the bass it made a definate difference (for the better) for my tonal needs.
Thanks for the info on the DIP switches Vic. So do you or anyone else know how the actually work? I mean are they just a frequency and a Q (wide/narrow) thing that is only affected when you cut/boost or do the affect the "flat" setting of the preamp? Hope that makes sense.

The DIP switches only affect the preamp when a knob is boosted or cut. So if you're playing with the knobs set flat then it won't matter what DIP settings are used.
