Hey I see your beast on the Krappy pages. I assume it's in your possession? How is it?
My new bass is at the bottom of the punkbass page: Joe Diddley (half-fretted w/ B & E strings). Pretty wild machine.. way different sound and feel than my 1st 2-stringer. Neck longer due to higher placement of bridge. I now own 3 krappy's: 2 basses and an electric ukulele. What's next? hmmmm..
PS - I am now the apparent poster child for Punk Bass ! That's me with the tattoo on the home page. Ahhh... fame!
Not yet, the UPS tracking number tells me it will be here Friday so I am very excited.

I've been looking for an inexpensive fretless with a smallish, travel-friendly design, and decent sound. From what I've seen, this fits the bill.
I sent Kevin payment for a 4-string build last night, and as of this morning, he's already started. Real wood and all!

I'll keep you posted. Part of it may be the giddy anticipation that goes with the unknown, but I'm really looking forward to getting this.
and soon to be non-newbies! it's great the way Kevin sends pics of the build, and i fully expect you guys to be outta touch for months as soon as the things get delivered- they're habit forming! looking forward to hearing everyone's axes b4 2 long... cheers!
I'm gonna be getting a 4 string twiggy almost certainly before the end of the month. I'll let you know when I actually place the order...about to go on a 2.5 week trip, so I'm a little leery of placing it now.
Very cool body-shape, btw. Was that your design, or Kevin's?
For what it's worth [although I am enjoying Krappy's #2 and#3] the FretLesPaul is my absolute favorite instrument I have ever owned (basses, guitars, banjos, accordions, etc.). It feels great, is balanced perfectly, sounds perfect... just sitting here at work thinking about it, I can almost feel it in my hands! I should be talking about a woman, I know... but that's how I feel about this bass right now. And it was handmade to my specs, for $100. Unbelievable, still!
Just got an email from Kevin, and 10 days after ordering, my bass is finished and soon to ship. Picture's a bit blurry, but here she is:

It's a Twiggy, but I had Kevin install...ahh, whaddaya call 'em...studs for a strap. It weighs less than three pounds, which is good because I'm recovering from a neck injury.
It also smells really nice. I know it's not really important, but it's a nice touch. Others have mentioned that the bridge and saddle are a bit primitive, but action and intonation are as good as anything I've ever played.
It's got a grumbly, clear sound. Some of that may be the roundwound strings it came with; I'll probably be switching to flats soon to keep the neck looking nice.
I recorded this on the fly. Just the bass, through a little Behringer practice amp. Any timing or intonation issues are me. The rest is the bass.

Very nice Tom!! A little bit different from mine (mine has an "arrowhead" headstock to accomdate the Gotoh pegs I had Kevin put on). Half-rounds or flats are definitely the ticket with this particular axe, gives it a big room-filling GRRROOOWWWLLLL.
I love how Kevin makes each individual instrument within a model range very unique and individual.
yeah i even wrote that as part of my thank you to Kevin, i think it's on the testimonials page somewhere... dunno what he does to 'em, perhaps the oil rub, but man they sure do smell nice, i agree... although it's faded after a year now, it's still there just a tad... best of luck and have fun!! re primitivity (?) i'm kind of a basic guy here, as are most of you from the sounds/looks of things, so primitive fits me just fine! and THAT's why i'm a Krappy Klub kinda guy!

like the tasty harmonics @ the end, and lotsa slip-slidin' around... amazing what one can do once one is freed from the frets, that whole world between halfsteps becomes much more accessible... cheers!

Okay, I definitely want a Twiggy 4! I think I'm going to take a page from Owl's book and send Kevin a set of bass tuners that I have left over from modding my SX short scales. They're heavy, but who cares my shoulder won't be supporting them! I'm going to go even further and send the left over el cheapo bridge and P pickup from the SX too! Plus, I'm going to send him a tripod music stand, so the Twiggy can be free-standing! A set of flats and I'm all set! This is going to be awesome!
