The Lakland DJ sig

The DJ sig is possibly the only one that is leaving.

That would be too bad...it's the only Lakland I dig.

I have not purchased one yet but I was interested in these based on design alone. Having the upmost respect for Darryl of course. I was finally able to try one of these out at Bass Central last year. I loved it! Here I was surrounded by a plethora of awesome basses and I kept going back to the DJ. There was a lot that I liked when comparing to other jazz bass models. The streamlined body was a plus for me and the angled heel made upper fret access so much easier. It just played better than most jazz basses I've tried, including the USA Fender Jazz that I had purchased 7 months prior to trying the DJ out. Had I waited, I would opted for the DJ.

That's probably a good thing, they have enough signature models anyways.
I think signature models might get some buzz initially but after that wears off it really comes down to whether or not it's a good bass.

By the way the artists lakland picked for their basses never made that much sense to me. I would think a younger crowd is more likely to purchase a signature bass, whereas Lakland went after the older established bass players that a lot of younger players aren't even aware of.

Ibanez and Fender have a ton of basses for guys I've never heard of and I'm sure they sell a ton of them to kids who just came home from a concert.

I would say keep the initials 'DJ', but make them mean something else. Then a whole bunch of us, who aren't too bothered about the signature, can still call it the DJ, and everyone still knows what it is.

It´s a lefty U.S.
I don´t care if it is DJ,JD or something else.I like the spec and
design and I´m going to play it with pride.

Design for me... I didn't know about Darryl until I saw the bass..

+ whatever number I am to requote this. Had no idea who he was until I saw the bass. Now I know. Dig his playing, but his name on that bass has/had no bearing on when I bought my past 3. Will probably buy another 4 banger DJ4 (or whatever they will be called) in the future.

well, as to the 'signature' thing, the 4-94 and 55-94 have been on plenty of million selling hits and tours and there aren't any 'signature' models with those configs.

So although it's been cool to see some Fender pioneers who have jumped on to the way Dan does things and appreciate what he does, I don't see the need for Lakland to do signature models.

I love the color combos and the binding and blocks just wish I could get it with a 55-xx body! not so in love with the countour of the DJ compared to other jazz style basses

While I knew of and certainly respected Daryl as a player, I bought the DJ because it was the best sub-$1500 jazz bass I tried in terms of tone, fit and finish and feel.

Those are staying (sig models as well)but don't expect any new sig models (for a long while, if ever).

Whew! You had me scared for a minute, Jauqo. I hope they keep making it as is with a different name, I think it's a really good "gateway bass" for eventual Lakland addicts.

I don't think I would....as much as I would like to do so! Just would not work at church!

If I did not have my jazz bass needs covered the DJ would be HIGH on my list because of the neck and downsized body. I LOVE my 55-94.
