*******THE LONE WOLF CLUB**********

I am a lone wolf. Got back into playing about two years ago after a long stretch of not having a bass. I would like to start my own cover band one day but until I can gain better skills I'm better off plunking away by myself. I'm also glad to see I'm not the only one.

I hear you and you are more than welcome to join would you like a number?

Anyone learning anything new? I'm still toying with Al Stewarts Time Passages great song but it's long.

Thought I'd practice a bit on my ear training, so I plugged my iPad into my practice amp and fired up Pandora then selected some bizarre music channels where I wouldn't know any of the songs at all. The goal is to figure out the bassline before the song is over. Kinda fun and different and very challenging.
Avoiding the traditional rock and roll music I normally play has been an eye opener. Tango, Polka, Mexican Folk, Classical Piano, French Lounge Jazz, Russian Ballet, New Age Cool Jazz and Trip Hop are a few of the different types of music I've tried. Can't say I'm great at it or that I get it all correct but its surprising how much of it I am able to accurately play along with. Just something different and fun.

Ok I am impressed

A long time ago, I had the chance to attend Rock Across America, with Bobby Rock, Bill Dickens and Neil Zaza. The show was essentially a Peavy sponsored clinic/tour.

Dickens kicked @ss as usual.

They stopped a few times, taking questions from the crowd. When asked, Zaza had an interesting method of practicing. He would turn on a TV show or cartoon and hit Mute. He would play whatever inspired him during the various scenes of the program.

Thread resurrection!!!

Due to certain current life situations, I think I'm going to be a lone wolf for a fair amount of time. So it got me thinking - do you guys ever do music projects for purposes other than self satisfaction? Any lone wolves with any ideas on how to make this lone wolf business sustainable (in the financial terms, if possible)?

I've been a lone wolf since day one, far too many years ago than I care to remember. My interest lately has been getting use to playing a fiver. In fact, I've been playing my Ibanez 505 almost exclusively for the past few months and am happy to say the B string is being used less and less as a thumb rest. Starting to learn to play tunes higher up the neck and using that low b to get a thicker sound. Have also been dreaming up modified bass lines to songs I usually play to make use of that thunderous low B. So far....so good.
