The longest song ending ever?

Thick As A Brick.jpg

Thick as a Brick
The album is one complete piece from start to end,
split over two sides of an LP record
Side 1 22:37
Side 2 21:05

On 8 track, auto reverse cassette, or digital continuous loop; the end blends with the beginning.
An "endless" recording? Maybe.

Yeah, well, it’s cute and all, but I heard My Bloody Valentine do something like that live in 1991.

This beats all of them….

Plus his week beat your year.
Every minute of it, I dare you. I have, several times.

Then there’s this magnus opus, a sound collage of a bunch of feedback drenched song endings from a tour…

An item of savage beauty…

…as was all of his stuff, plus it was the breeding ground for Sonic Youth.

But really, not counting any La Monte Young influence, here’s ground zero for the general idea(and it’s Lou again)…

I've often thought Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music, Neil Young's Arc, and Pat Metheny's Zero Tolerance For Silence should be considered a set ...and should be listened to simultaneously. (!!!!)

Funny you should mention that..last year I attended a sonic experiment event where 10 people with turntables each had a copy of Terry Riley’s In C album and they all did the needle drop at roughly the same time, but of course, staggered. Then there was the slight variance of motor speed, and while the piece itself mutates and transforms, the randomness spread out over all that playback was increased. It was…a trip. I never had a problem with it, although I liked A Rainbow In Curved Air and his album with John Cale, Church Of Anthrax better, but in this format it was mind altering.

Incidently, one of the people on the crew was a drummer, Danny Frankel, who I am aquainted with. He played with Lou Reed in the 90’s, and I wanted to jokingly suggest that they should give MMM the same treatment, but there were too many people crammed into the small space(right on the edge of Joshua Tree National Monument, an otherworldly place in itself)and I didn’t catch up with him.

Challenge accepted.

Full Results: Done and done.*

*User took prescribed medication beforehand without knowledge of upcoming challenge, therefore Barry Bonds asterisk. Result may have been due to performance enhancers. General Amusement around 3.5 minute mark, then lull. 6 minute mark it became WAY more funny than originally thought possible. Lull again. Became hilarious around at 8:48 mark. Full respect for the band started around 10:38 based on sheer commitment to idea. Full respect for studio engineers and mixers set in at around 12:31. Full respect for string manufacturers set in at around 14:07. Loss of respect for self started at 15:29 because of spending life energy doing this. Self editor kicked in at around 17:05 reminding self of the need to have unbridled fun in life at times. Self respect returned at around 17:47. Realization at 18:12 that main guy drinking a "soda" in video thumbnail may have had a cast on his left arm for good reasons...and may have also needed some pain relief for good reasons. 21:44 haphazardly slightly overstretched causing a balance issue in my chair that was corrected...proceeded with mission to pluck A string on just out of reach guitar just to see if I really did know the note. I did as it turns out. As fade out occurred....stood up with hands outstretched making fists. Fists of sheer victory. Fists of overcoming.

Thanks OP.
Your words could make for great lyrics 😛🤣
