Yep, me too. My NYC PJ5 is pretty dinged and scratched up. The neck has nice wear marks on it too. Some of the Sadowsky guys would have a heart attack if they saw it up close.

Yep, me too. My NYC PJ5 is pretty dinged and scratched up. The neck has nice wear marks on it too. Some of the Sadowsky guys would have a heart attack if they saw it up close.
My lulls are my main players, but I "kid glove" em. Scratched up pick guards is about all I can report. Had these guys out on the road a ton too.

My M5 has some dings and honest wear. It's still a beautiful bass, though! I'm one of the "if I'm not using it, it's gone" type of guys, so she sees alot of action.
I am currently looking at an 'older' Mike Lull jazz I've found for sale. Older logo / no serial on the headstock. Not as 'polished' looking as the ones he's making these days. I don't have a chance to play it as it's online. It's active / passive with Bartolini pups & Bartolini 2 band eq. I am going on name that it will be quality. Has anyone ever come across a 'no so good' Lull?

I may not be representative, but I've owned a total of four. All were great, and I still own one of them and have one new build on order. I didn't get rid of them because they weren't great, just not what I needed at the time.

Hey guys, I don't own a Lull, but here's a little anecdote for you:
On my very first bass lesson, I went with my bass, but my teacher said "hey, man, you don't have to carry your bass if you don't want to", I have two here".
Ok, so next class I went without bass, he pulls out this old beat up MIJ Jazz Bass and this other flawless, amazing beautiful thing and he says "here, play with this one". I look at the headstock: "Mike Lull Custom Basses". Second time we ever saw each other.
Of course I could tell it was a high-end, beautiful instrument, but didn't really know how high-end it was, until I got home, googled it and found out it was a near $2000 bass.
I must be the only guy in the world who didn't know the first thing about bass and played a Lull. Haha.

I have a transparent black quilt maple topped M5 with BEM fb, Audere 4 band preamp and Lull/Duncan humcancelling J pickups... it sounds awesome, I can go from bridge pup fingerstyle a-la-jaco to in-your-face Miller slap tone and anything in between. The Audere Z mode switch is really cool; it sounds very natural and musical. I use the "Low Z" setting for a fat tone and cutting in the mix with both pups engaged.
My M5 has the Duncan/Lull pickups and the Bartolini 3-band. 918 IIRC. It kills, very versatile.
