The Mike Lull Club Part 4

dupe post - but love this case!

yep, those Protec Contego style of bags are good ones.
the regular Protec bags, not so much, but better than nothing, I suppose.

Not by much, I gotta say...

Two of the three new Lulls I owned were shipped in those Lull-stenciled bags. I was kinda surprised as the two used Lulls I bought before the new ones came with the Lull-stenciled Contega cases. I guess the previous owner had bought them afterwards.

The 2018 M5V came with the bag and I ordered a Lull/Contega from Mike. Then the 2021 Sky Blue P5 came with the Contega as I ordered it for an upcharge. But the natural P5 I bought in very late 2021 had to be shipped in a bag (and always packed very well, I might add) as there were no Lull/Contega cases in stock.

I've been trying to buy another Lull/Contega case ever since, but they are always in short supply. I did order 2 stock Contega cases directly from Protec, who seemed to have plenty of those....:D

Looks like I'm joining the club. Fed Ex dropped this off a bit ago:

More pics later when I get the chance

Dang!!! I saw this online and in their shop a few weeks ago. Would have been a perfect companion to my fretless M5 from roughly the same era. <sniff>

Congrats though! (if a little jealous).

I think they have them in stock now. I'm in talks w/ Spencer to see if I can nab one.

Thanks! Yeah I went back and forth on this one, thinking maybe just order a brand new one, but the finish on this bass seduced me and pulled the trigger on Saturday. She's amazing in every way, and worth every penny.

I think I have the controls figured out. Stacked volume/blend with push/pull active-passive, mids, stacked bass/treble, mids frequency switch, though I'm not sure what the frequencies are just yet.

Lighter than I thought, too. The shop listed 10 lbs 2 oz. I think it's lighter than that, maybe 9lbs.

Mine has Bart preamp which is very transparent. It has 250Hz, 500hz and 800Hz for mid (I think).

anyway… in practice I find having the lower mid boosted slightly to be very effective as a bass control. Maybe more useful than the actual bass control which gets you into sub Sonic territory.

Of course this is fretless, and with my bass, my ear, my fingers and my amps etc

One nice touch on mine is the pickups switch between single coil and humbucking.

But they sound way better in single coil so I just keep them there unless I really need the quiet any hum, which is quite rare.

Yeah, I did a little research last night, mine also has the Bart preamp (and Bart pickups too) so should be the same setup on the switch.

The bass is such a joy to play. It's been 25 years since I last owned a 5 string, so there's a bit of getting used to, but I certainly don't mind that!
