The Mike Lull Club Part 4

Well, I decided to dive all in on a bass I regretted not purchasing last Fall. It came back as a mint certified pre-owned, and after Spencer sent me a couple demo videos of this sonic blue beast I couldn’t resist. It has a 3 Leaf preamp that is very powerful. A little tweak goes a long way. I’m very excited to receive this gorgeous instrument.

That is gorgeous! I would love to hear that 3 Leaf preamp.

Came with steel D'ads 45-65-80-100 - i gave 'em a chance. just couldn't bond with them

The TrickFish preamp is gorgeous

Even passive with the hum-cancelling Fralins.

I’m gonna have to call Spencer and have him send me all these cool new preamps he’s using. I’d love to hear that Trickfish too. :drool:

I replaced the John East J Retro in my M5V with a Trickfish IPA and I’m very happy with it. Not as much baked-in tone (which wasn’t a bad thing), but still a little something there that makes very nice.

A year ago, I might have wanted to try the 3 Leaf, but since then, I’ve kinda lost the desire to explore The Next Thing on my basses. I just wanna play and the folks I work with seem to like the Trickfish with the Lindy Fralin single-bills well enough.

I agree on the John East’s baked in tone. I had the J Retro Deluxe and it was great. But I think I still prefer my Bartolini pre over it, for that souped up jazz bass tone. It would be cool if Spencer did an A/B video so we could hear each pre side by side.

A thousand times, I intended to track first, the OEM Bartolini, then the Nordstrand, then the J Retro to archive away for such a purpose.

And a thousand and one times, I just did t get around to it.

It would have been an informative exercise.
