The Mike Lull Club Part 4

I used a long screw driver once on one....these necks dont move that much! and remember they are plekd...so you have to get the neck to where the plek job is...its usually when the neck is as straight as can be with no bow....if you move it off the plek mark even a little you get buzzing all over the place! then as soon as you get it back to plek spot you can put the action as low as you want without buzzing.

every plekd neck I have had that was the case!!

so....I am in love!!!! I didnt know my SVT had a db lever inside the EQ....and I found it and put it on -7 or so db and now my active TC4 sounds so incredible!!!! I couldnt get the volume loud at all without it clipping and getting all distorted....now I have it loud and clear and its awesome!!! I wish I got a preamp in my P4 now!!! my next lull will be a PJ with a big single and a aguilar preamp....I really like that brandy wine color on rockets site! that with rosewood and a black guard would look great!!

This TC4 with labella flex flats feels and sounds wonderful! I know you guys have seen this before it was Gary's...but I am in love with it!

I think my P4 coming is my first! I had some I built myself but the new lull is the first one all built for me! with my weird 18mm spacing!

that TC4 sounds fantastic now that I found that -DB lever on my amp! I didnt think tube amps had them!

that bass feels so good with thin flats!

So my replacement GHS Precision Flat 105 E came today. Much better. As I said there were some tiny gaps in the wrap and it didn't look as smoothly constructed. Also there were a couple wear marks on the string and it just lacked volume and had too much attack in comparison. Much better! She sounds balanced now.

I also think I have it dialed in a bit better too. I raised the action a tad (still a hair under 5/64" at the E 12th) and have a tiny amount of relief (no idea the measurement). I still realize that my technique is sloppy. I have a tendency to slap the string with my index finger on my right in between notes without thinking or be just a fraction of a second too early with my left hand and I was getting a lot of clacking. As I said, she doesn't let you hide bad technique. But that's good in my book. It means the bass is more dynamic and it will make me a stronger player.

I have TI Jazz flats on my Lull for the tone and flexibility. While it's not the prettiest tone soloed, it sits in the mix perfectly.

I don't know that any of my basses are forgiving playability wise but my Lull is by far the easiest to play. And it doesn't even have my favorite neck shape. I prefer a rounder neck and the Lull if fairly flat, especially for a four string. Maybe it's the fact that the bass was Plek'd; it's the only bass that I've owned that has been Plek'd. I don't know. It just seems to play itself.

My technique isn't the best either. .... But that is one if the reasons I love lulls!!! You can get super low action and don't have to play super light, you can dig in a little. I love fairly low action. Makes it so much easier to play! You barely have to touch the strings and can play so much faster and smoother.

I agree. Though like I said depending on your technique, that can be a bad thing. Or at least there is a little bit of a learning curve to playing his instruments because they're so responsive.

nice! ebony??? ebony plays fast...lulls play fast....wooooooo!
