The Mike Lull Club Part 4

I am not a flatwound guy (except for fret less)I prefer roundround and adjust my eq. I have rounds on my Lull P5 and it simply sounds great. I am sure rounds on your Lull P would as well.
I put flats on a Stingray 5 fretted and to me- it lost all it's character and definition.
I have found chromes to be a nice alternative though

Well my P4 is on its way back to me and I should have it Monday. I talked to Paul and he said that for some reason, what I was seeing on the fretboard that looked like glue or lacquer was just gunk. The same goes for how some of my fret ends looked. I don't know if my bass a demo or what, but at any rate he said it looks brand new now. A funny thing though, he said that my neck was completely out when he got it. Action, relief, intonation. It was fine when it left. I guess a trip across the country can definitely mess with things.

Also, I have to give Paul credit. Mike was going to charge me for an hour or an hour and a half labor due to the fact that what he cleaned up had nothing to do with how the bass was built and therefore wasn't really a warranty issue, but Paul talked him into just charging me return shipping. Good deal. I'll take it.

I have to give a big boo-hiss to UPS though. The return shipping is costing me more than it took to ship them the bass Fedex (60 Fedex, 75 UPS). Not Mike's fault of course, but it just is proof to me that UPS is definitely more expensive than Fedex.

UPS is always more! and the UPS dude handed me my box upside down! I wasnt too happy! but it was all good!

I like both rounds and flats....I like rounds on a jazz flats on a P....I like flats on a jazz too sometimes. Thin flats sound and feel great on Lulls I think! the TC4 I had sounded and felt amazing with TIs and thin flats.
I use Fodera stainless rounds on my V4....they are very warm for a stainless....almost the same as the prosteels that came with it but a bit warmer.
I hate daddario chromes....they sound too tinny and like weird feeling to me. Sadowsky flats are my favorite modern sounding flat.....I am just going to get another A string and put them back on.
The lull PJ I had with Nordys was a bit clearer then the Fralin.....I used rounds on that...but it was too much just like my V4 to keep it.

I have one. A P4 purchased at Bass NW last Sepember.

I know that this has likely been asked before so please bear with me
I am looking for a Lull P bass alder with Rosewood board
Considering both the P4 (Fralins) or ordering a P5 (Mike's custom wound) with a 34" neck)
Can anyone comment on the difference between the pickups? I am looking for the "vintage" P sound....
Also, has anyone had Mike make a P bass but with a Jazz neck ( similar to a Duck Dunn)?
I am hoping to join the club soon!

Sad to say that I've now let all 4 of those basses go on to greener pastures. The amber one on the right is a TC4 with Fat Stacks. This is my V4 jazz with Big Singles, best damn jazz bass I've ever played.

I love Nordstand's pickups. I'm thinking about putting big singles/splits in my jazz. Can you describe how the big singles compare to standard jazz size pickups?

Let me put it into perspective.

Regular jazz pickups = kiss on the cheek at the doorstep.
Big Singles = bad da boom and breakfast the next morning
