I've tried both, and while Carey makes great pickups, I also prefer the SDs for JJ and P/J... for straight P tho... I tend to favor Carey's. Not as true to the Fender sound as the SD, but in a good way for me. Just personal pref there. My M5V-PJ has Mike's SD custom wound (humcanceling) PUs...love the passive tone so much, I sent it back to him last week to replace the Bart 3-band with a Bart 2-band (+ passive tone control) set up similar to Pauliebass's PJ5-24, except ptc push/pull->passive in the down position... I've read great reviews about Nordy's in his PJ's, but decided to stick with SD's that I really, really like...and not mess with having the bridge PU re-routed. Maybe Nordy's for another Lull bass down the road???![]()
every 12s cab I have had have been wicked tinny! when I added my 4-10 to my 2-12 it was a whole new world! much deeper!
I was going to buy a berg 6-10 from someone local and sell my 8-10 but I bawked....wasnt sure I wanted to lose my ampeg tone....I shoulda grabbed it for 600....I could have sold the ampeg for about that.
yeah 10s are my speakers of choice!! deep and punchy! 12s too tinny and 15s too muddy.
You will get more lows but Sterile is the last word I would call that cab...(and this is coming from a guy who just used 10s for years).I had a GK 2-12 neo....sterile compared to the GK 4-10 neos! Now that's a deep cab!!
2-12s sound very sterile to me compared to 4-10s....no matter who makes them.
+1That has nothing to do with the size of the drivers though.
