The Mike Lull Club Part 4

My M5V-PJ has Mike's SD custom wound (humcanceling) PUs...love the passive tone so much, I sent it back to him last week to replace the Bart 3-band with a Bart 2-band (+ passive tone control) set up similar to Pauliebass's PJ5-24, except ptc push/pull->passive in the down position... I've read great reviews about Nordy's in his PJ's, but decided to stick with SD's that I really, really like...and not mess with having the bridge PU re-routed. Maybe Nordy's for another Lull bass down the road??? :)
I've tried both, and while Carey makes great pickups, I also prefer the SDs for JJ and P/J... for straight P tho... I tend to favor Carey's. Not as true to the Fender sound as the SD, but in a good way for me. Just personal pref there.

You know I dont think it really matters what pick ups what cab what amp....every combo of each sounds different!
I have a SVT2 and a 8-10 and its really middy and muddy....some basses and pickups sound too muddy to me and some cut right through the fog and sound great!
I had this amp with GK cabs and some pickups sounded great like my select jazz pickups...and some sounded terrible and too tinny to me like my 75AVRI pickups.
I had a mesa400 with the GK cabs a mbfusion......I have a micro EA doubler with the ampeg 8-10 also as a back up and it almost sounds like my SVT....making me believe thats just the sound of the cab! but the thing is everything sounds different with the combo of cab and amp you are using!!!!

the only constant to me is I like a vintage tone (SVT 8-10) and I like a stainless strings and a vintage clear sounding pickup to cut through all the low mids of the amp.

but its hard to say what pickup sounds good unless you are familiar with the amp cab and bass.....all i know is every Lull I have had has sounded wonderful with every combo of amp and cab I use! also every pickup I have tried nordys P J nordy fatstack and fralins have all sounded great! and the B and E strings on their basses are very articulate and not boomy but even sounding and very musical.

every 12s cab I have had have been wicked tinny! when I added my 4-10 to my 2-12 it was a whole new world! much deeper!
I was going to buy a berg 6-10 from someone local and sell my 8-10 but I bawked....wasnt sure I wanted to lose my ampeg tone....I shoulda grabbed it for 600....I could have sold the ampeg for about that.
yeah 10s are my speakers of choice!! deep and punchy! 12s too tinny and 15s too muddy.

sealed cabs too like the nv 6-10 and ampeg 8-10 are deeper and more vintage sounding too!
thats one of the reasons I switched to sealed cabs!

sealed cabs actually make a huge difference in sound!
even when you use a micro amp with one....it sounds much more vintage then the whole tweeter ported thing.

Anybody know of how I can get a wiring diagram for how Lull would wire an Aguilar OBP-3 with Nord Fat Stacks in a TC4? Also anyone know how I could get replacement pickup mounting screws for the same Fat Stacks? Any suggestions or reccomendations would be greatly appreciated. I will try calling Lull if need be but thought I might be able to get some help here. Thanks!

You will have to try the GK 212s in a couple of weeks for the GTG.

Tell ya though the 2-12 and 4-10 neo together is a great little stack!!! and you could move it easy! if they were 4 ohm cabs and I could use it with my SVT I would have kept them! well the 4-10 at least..

wow this sucks staring out the window for the UPS guy to get here with my new Lull!!!!
I am going mad! I feel like an addict waiting for my smack!

I dont like its 92 degrees out and massively humid and my new lull is all hot in the back of a ups truck!!!

I had a GK 2-12 neo....sterile compared to the GK 4-10 neos! Now that's a deep cab!!
You will get more lows but Sterile is the last word I would call that cab...(and this is coming from a guy who just used 10s for years).
