Used to have an old Ampeg SVIIP preamp running through a Mackie 1400i power amp going to an Aguilar GS412. 1400 watts bridged into 4 ohms.

Then I replaced the head unit with a GK 700RBII and my volume level actually increased. Who would have thought...?

a gig outside where there is no boundary reinforcement, and the stage is 75 feet wide, 25 feet deep and the drummer has 2 -18"/12"/2" for monitors, the guitarist has 4 marshall fullstacks that sound like a train coming across the stage :) even if you dont need it all its nice to have. a solid state 1000w amp running at 300w seems to have more authority and sound better to me that a 300w amp running at 300w.they just seem to thin out when they get to the end of their headroom. i use a crown micro tech 2400 amp that does 2000w rms. ive never even seen the clip light come on.

Sorry for the grainy digital zoom...

That's a purple knob Avalon 737 with Baby Face mod [faster compressor] into ch 1 of a Crown iTech 4000 [2000 watts into 4 ohms]. The the BBE on top of the rack drives the edrum half [kik & toms] of a hybrid drum kit into ch 2 of the iTech. Bass channel runs into a 1515/66+1 fEARful with a BMS driver / Pyle horn tweet section - the drum channel runs into a fEARful 15/sub + 15/6+1 stack with the Selenium driver / Dayton horn options behind the drummer as a monitor.

Total available watts for the bass-n-drum = 4000 but we rarely run it higher than 3 dB down even outside with a largish crowd.

"There is no replacement for displacement" is a pretty apt credo for a bass rig IMO. :bassist:

But you also benefit from ample watts, headroom and the oft neglected duty cycle elements of a pro grade power amp.

I'll take the number e but if unavailable will settle for phi.

I have used the SVT 4 and SVT 2 together with the 2 powering 2 mesa 4x10s and the 4 powering 2 Genz benz neo 212xts. i used a radial switchbone as an active splitter. pretty loud but not too practical.

The 15s split 1000 watts and a custom DSP setting in my plate amp. The mid-horn gets 180 watts of nice pristine Hafler power. There are no fans in anything, and the noise floor is excellent. I'm using a modded Ashly BP-41 to biamp, and I have two different homemade line drivers available, one solid state and one tube. I haven't decided how to run the tweeter yet, but I have the other side of the Hafler for that if I decide on triamping.

The top cab is obviously a work in progress (no top, back, or sides yet), but it also sounded very nice with my little Fender tube amp running it yesterday. :bassist:

The rig you had on Kimmel the other night looked like 3 heads on top of either 4 or 5 cabinets. Difficult to tell, the camera was quick during shots of that side of the stage. Whatever it is I'm sure it meets the qualifications for posting on this thread. :-)

I couldn't tell if one of the cabinets was a gear rack or they were all speaker cabs. If one of those was a gear rack is that where you have your Crown to drive the cabs? Definitely could make out the four full stacks of Marshalls on the other side. Camera spent more time angled that way and easy to see the Marshall logo in the middle of cab.

Before seeing you guys on the Kimmel ABC site (I'm in Thailand working for a few more days so had to see it on the web) I didn't have any of your stuff in my collection. After watching Kimmel I went to iTunes and downloaded some of your older and newer music. I like it, it's really good, have your tunes in my rotation list now.

Thanks! Its pretty awesome. The Kern of course is 100% US made for those who count that kind of thing. For me it really nails the BEST of what a tube amp represents to me while retaining some of the tonal pluses of a solid state amp (That tonal balance knob is the shiznit).

The Power amp equals TONS of clean headroom and wattage to sustain the big lows I like. At under 8 pounds it balances out with the 15 pound Kern!

Then of course, the fEARfuls love that power AND can use it while staying clean and getting LOW...but also retaining the punch and definition in the mids and upper mids.

...I don't even need to tell you about Sheldon's work. This rig is put together specifically to show off what this bass can do. 37" low B string and clean clear punchy tone with real authority. Right now the bass is wearing some Payson Nickel wrapped strings. I'm getting used to the slightly higher tension and a bit of a low mid bump in comparison to Sheldon's custom GHS steels.

OK I guess I can play too! :)

Main amp is a full tube pre-amp driving a Carvin DCM1000L into a pair of 4Ω Acme B2 cabinets. 650W as listed. Add my second pair of Acme cabinets for 1000W.

Back up amp is a Carvin BX1500. 900W into the single pair of cabinets and 1500W into all four.

Spare amp is an ART 259 tube channel into a Mackie FR1400. Similar power specs to the BX1500.
