The most Underrated Bass out there

Fender Jazz Bass Plus from the 90's (replaced by the Deluxe line but do not hold the same value) - they get a bad rap for their 80's influenced finishes but they have active Kubicki electronics, Lace Sensor pickups and can run passive (even with a dead battery). They also sport the slimmest jazz neck I've come across.

The difference between a 200$ bass and a 1000$ bass is not worth 800$ difference..
I have never played a squier precision that sucked. I have never played a American Precision that sucked or played any better than the squier.
I have owned enough basses to know this..

All these played as good as the set up and sounded as good as the strings and my playing.

without a doubt, the biggest winner for this category. Sick player, great sound (superferrites, mmmmmm) and for a grand you can have 4 or 5 of them. This is based on 44 years of being a gearslut. I have a 74 jazz bass that was Sadowskified by the man himself back in '87 and it sits in retirement. Plus if you need to put a preamp in it, you have room to spare.Just a well thought out great player.

I really like the Peavey Foundations. I would also add in my trusty mid eighties Ibanez Roadstar. It is a tank and feels and plays incredibly well.
Although I loved my Cort Curbow 5, the tone was lacking something. I currently think my California-made TBC 5 dual MM p/u and Douglas 6 JJ are definately underrated values at $450 used and 109 new respectively.

Peavey basses are a great buy. Especially the ones with Super Ferrite pickups.
The Traben Choas Core basses.
No flashy birdge, Aguliar preamp, two Rockfield MM pickups. String-thru/top-load bridge. It is just an awesome bass.

I used to see a lot of the Conklin GT line in the mainstream stores. They always struck me as being a lot of bang for the buck. I can't say that I've owned or tried to gig with one, so can't comment on tone or reliability, but they felt well put together and played nice IMO. 
The peavey basses are the value bass for the buck. If you only had a $150.00 and needed a good all around bass they are the way to go. Built like a tank, usually set up pretty well, and what other US made bass on the planet can be bought at the same price or less than most imported basses.
Also have to agree the old Japanese made basses are the shizzle. Any of the old Matsuomoku basses can be hard pretty cheap and are almost always great players.

Over 25 years old and you can get them for under $150.00 with original hardshell case.
They had an Alnico Pickup and a maple neck that felt like a Fender P!
It was my first bass, over 20 years ago, and it rocked! But then again, I may be emotionally attached to it... ;-)
One of my students has this bass, and it sounds amazingly good. Very surpised.
Older MIJ Soundgears. I've bought several 800's, each for less than a new GSR200 would have cost me.
