The Muckelroy Bass Club Part 1 (It's high time!)

Years ago, I was at Brady's shop and played on this short scale bass he made (see pic below). Ever since, I've wondered who ended up as the lucky owner of this beauty. Decided I'd check TalkBass to see if anyone knows...

hey y'all. quick question for those here with a 32" 5 string ensemble model: what strings do you use? i was talking to strings and beyond and they said i'd likely need a custom scale set to accommodate the apparently atypical lengths on this bad betty. that true? where do you get yours from?

I've a 33" ensemble and I've been very happy with the Muckelroy signature set from Curt Mangan

I don’t have the same scale length as you’re asking about, but I’ll 2nd the motion : I have a 30” six string Muck and Curt made sure what he sent fit perfectly

One more for Curt Mangan!! That's my string source!! 33" Muck 6 string and Fretless 5.. And my Modulus'!!

A 16.5mm spaced 5-string Muck is a rarity but it's my preferred spacing as well.
In fact, I have a ProPlayer 5 in his cue right now with that spacing.
And the Fretless 6 Renegade I posted recently is also 16.5mm.

I have tried wider string spacing on other basses but 16.5 is my sweet spot.
I'm guessing it's from playing Warwicks for many years before deciding on a custom build by Brady.

Good luck with your search Bryan.
How did that ProPlayer 5 with 16.5mm spacing turn out for you? Still searching for that elusive 16.5mm fretted five string. :)

Hello, Muckelroy experts! I've recently obtained my first Muck - a 34" 5-string fixed neck - and it is an excellent bass; sorry I was late to the Muckelroy party! However, the input jack is intermittent, with some play for most male prongs; and per the pictures, it appears to be an encapsulated unit that does not permit the kind of contact adjustments (that is, press-and-bend) available on lesser instruments. None of the locking parts is loose to the touch. Is there any way to jiggle these parts from the inside, and if not, what precisely are they, so that I might seek complete replacement (although I'd have to delegate, as my soldering skills are way behind the clean presentation of this wiring installation). Thanks for all hints and advice!

I recommend reaching out to Brady directly. His contact info is on his website GetAMuck.com: 512-618-1781 [email protected]. Facebook messenger is also a good way to go.
