Thank you, it seems something is wrong with the unit I got. 18v on C4 does work for me too but (even with 2 fresh 9v) it makes random popping sounds. Not when dis engaging or engaging the pedal, just on random even when I am not playing. Any ideas why that might be happening?

yep, something must be wrong with yours. mine works perfectly either with batteries or the C4.

I've only used mine with batts but will give it a try with my Cioks. I mostly use batteries because it's much more convenient for me, especially as if you turn it 'off' then it doesn't;t use any power even with something in the input, and it passes the sound through (unless you have the LED activated to show envelope control, which I think means the off signal no longer passes through)

No it's not for sale ;)

Been using the the emulation in the VB99 wich is VERY good.
Huge VB99 fanboy since it got out

I’ve also been a VB99 user (and Vbass before that) for as long as I can remember; in fact I’ve read lots of your posts here about them. Yes the emulation in the VB99 is really good, but mine is a central part of my home setup and I don’t take it out very often.

Well problem solved. It was my cheapo wireless unit. The sound reminds me of an old amp I had before where if I placed my cellphone directly on top of it and a text or call was incoming, there would be these fast loud knocks. What stumped when I changed to just cables in the beginning was that I placed the wireless units that were on right next to the pedal. Time to enjoy this and figure out the dip switches!

Recieved my new Micro-Tron IV today & it has chips in the finish all over the edges & sides of the pedal despite it being labeled 'A' stock. Im pretty disappointed & emailed Mu-Tron to see if this is normal. Hoping they can exchange it or at least give me a discount.

What do you think? Is this acceptable for a new pedal?

On a good note the Red Opto-Mod sounds great but they're suggested calibration setting was useless.

I was pleasantly surprised to find the Micro-Tron IV, just like the Micro-Tron III, has the jumper pin to select between the original Mu-Tron III preamp or the Tru-Tron preamp.

With the Red Opto-Mod installed & the jumper pin switched over to the Mu-Tron III preamp it sounds excellent & I've dialed in a setting that I like that works both in the up & down sweep positions.

Having owned the Micro-Tron III & now trying out the IV I definitely prefer the IV. I just wish it didnt have all the cosmetic blemishes it does, kinda disappointed in their quality control on that front.

Ive heard their customer service isnt the best so not sure what to expect. Ive contacted them in the past with product questions & waited weeks to get a response. I hope they are quicker to respond this time. I dont really care about the blemishes but dont think its right to pay full price for a new pedal that looks like this.

Customer service got back to me only to say its normal for 'A' stock items to have cosmetic blemishes which is why they're offered at a reduced rate. The problem is I didnt order an 'A' stock item. I paid full price but they mistakenly sent me a damaged unit.

I emailed them back & attached the invoice I received after placing my order which shows I paid full price & didn't order an 'A' stock pedal... its been two days now with no repsonse from them so I just emailed again... I'm disappointed in their quality control & customer service.

The Micro-Tron III & IV are pretty much identical in terms of sound out of the box but I greatly prefer the IV because of the Opto-Mod modules & trimpots that allow for greater ease of dialing in your preferred tone.

Ive only tried the latest rendition of the Proton (think its the IV) & I had a difficult time getting it to sound the way I wanted it too & found myself settling for the best sound I could get out of it vs getting a sound I actually liked... theres a greater learning curve with 3leaf filters but they can be rewarding. I prefer the Chromatron & Wonderlove v2 with their added sculpting control & fx loops over the Proton.

Mu-tron filters have a more accentuated & colorful tone imo but the newer 3leaf filters (Chromatron/Proton) are smoother & have a transparent quality that I find charming, they seem to stay more true to the tone their fed. The 3leaf filters are more tame & polite & dont have the same thick greasiness as the Mu-Trons

On another note, its taken almost a month & a dozen emails but Mu-Tron exchanged the blemished 'A' stock Micro-Tron IV they sent me by mistake with an undamaged one. Came in the post just now.

I was a little disappointed in their customer service, I felt I had to hound them several times to get a response but they did come through for me just not as quickly as I expected they would.
