The micro-tron iii has definitely grown on me over the last week. I didn't notice much difference switching the preamp but I have it in the 3-4 jumper pin position currently. Love it with a gentle boost from the miura m2 & a little dirt from the 3leaf doom. I just ordered a octavider to pair with it. I opted for the older version of the reissue without the fuzz so that I could have the clean kill switch option.
Does anyone know of any (cheaper) aftermarket clone / replacement pedal compatible with the original Mutron C-100 for the BiPhase? I'd like one for my Bi-Phase, but not so excited to pay $700 for an actual original.

AFAIK it uses two vactrol VT9313 opto-couplers (NLA) and the pedal itself varies the light controlling them. there aren't a lot of parts but IMO, it still would be a difficult build.

I'm not really looking for an exact duplicate, just something functional that would let me use the pedal control inputs. My electronics skills are rusty enough that I'm not sure whether the magic boxes have electrons or Leprechauns in them! hehe

Does yours have the dip switches inside? They give quite a lot of flexibility. Whilst I think the musitronics version is more watery and greasy, the Haz sounds better on some instruments due to it's more even dynamics and its easer to set the filter to open without causing a volume difference. Also the bypass is great!
Not at all, some people really hated them but I think mainly for the fact that it was seen as an inferior copy which was an act of corporate espionage, but I’m judging in sound alone.
I’ve spent the morning comparing it to:
- Musitronics Mutron (recently serviced and calibrated)
- Maxon AF9
- EHX Qtron + big box
..and I have to say I prefer it to all of those. It’s clearer and more even, and there’s lots of range either side of my favourite setting.
With my jazz bass or anything more modern I think the Musitronics does a better job of dealing with the wide top end but with my thunderbird loaded mustang, the Haz has the edge.
Very handy how you can leave it plugged in but prevent battery drain by using the off switch. I use batteries in my pedals most of the time so unplugging them is a bit of a faff.

i believe that it does since it's the latest version but i haven't had a chance to open it up yet. and i agree that it's much smoother and less peaky than the original Mutrons that i used to own (i.e. easier to great a great sound out of it).

Yes it’s more predictable in a way. Like any filter you have to ‘play’ it accordingly. Let us know how you get on with it.
Loving the Haz... but what does the Notch filter do? I can't really hear it so maybe I need to change the range with the dip switches.. or is that more pronounced with a guitar?

i just tried mine with my cioks C4 using an 18 volt output and it works perfectly.
