The NEW acoustic 360/361....

Sorry you missed it. I was there - both Nigel & Barry played it and said it was awesome. In fact, everyone that walked by said the same thing. Even up close. You may want to try the new 360 yourself before coming to any conclusions about it.

Talk to Nigel about that offshore stuff. That's where I got it.
I'm not going to get into his position here but be careful how you represent his viewpoint.

I don't recall Nigel & I talking about the offshore stuff and I'm not sure how he would get information that isn't public knowledge. He played the 360 and said it was killer (or something to that effect). That was what he said to me. If he had a different viewpoint, he didn't express it at the time. You seem to be saying that I'm misrepresentiing what Nigel said. PM me if you like.

I just got a Acoustic B600h and two B410 cabs , there is no 360 or 361 currently in there product line (the sent me 3 books ) that im aware of , theres a B200 B200h, B115, B600h and thats pretty much it
the do have a little micro stack, but dont remember the make or modle number.

GC carries the gear you're referring to. Acoustic USA is a totally separate entity that has developed and makes the new 360, 361 and 361m with Russ Alee's new designs (he designed the original 360/361). As far as I know, even thought GC gets a royalty on 360 sales because they licence the Acoustic name, they are reluctant to carry the new equipment.

You must keep in mind that you have an vested interest in this puppy & I don't. What did you expect from a business man considering who was present. I have no doubt that this thing sounds good or Barry wouldn't have said so. But Nigel knows me from WAY back & knows that to remain credible, I don't want him to tell me what will sell me the amp.
As far as the offshore stuff, I'm sure you know as much as anyone about it. I don't know what he was referring to other than "it's" an alternative. He just made an aside to my questioning him about acquiring stock. The "how" part of his insight is not for me to speculate.

Well, perhaps I can make an offer to satisfy your curiosity. If you, or anyone else, can borrow a venue and arrange for several players to bring their basses, I'll bring my 360 with the 361's for everyone to try. I don't have the 361m with the 15", just the 361's. We would have to find a date and time that would be convenient to most and as long as the venue is in the GTA, I'd be fine with it. Then everyone could make up their own minds. What else can I say or do?

Or what would be REALLY cool is if you knew a bass player in a decent band that was doing a big room that you could loan it to & a bunch of us could make an evening of it, & discuss this beast. I count 3 of us here already. :bassist:

I think this news is a snoozer - 40 years ago, a few guys used the Acoustic 360 rig. Then Sunn and Ampeg came along and blew the Acoustic off the stage so badly the company went out of business. In the 80's, SWR, Hartke and a bunch of others came along.
If the Acoustic 360 was bass nirvana, someone would have re-done the design and reintroduced it. Nostalgia only goes so far - you've got to step up and perform. I don't think a redone Acoustic 360 will cut it in today's bass market.

Not sure what Sunn you are referring to, but...

I owned and gigged the 360 and a Sunn Model T with the 4 x15 bottom, and have spent sufficient time with the SVT's, and I neither recall the sequence you are referring to nor do I agree with the general dynamics. IME, the 360 and the SVT both were preferable to the Sunn, though I liked the Sunn; and the 360 is better suited to a J vibe while the SVT fits a P better. That said all three are pretty cool in their own way.

Anyhow, its all kind of moot because the SVT now owns the big backlines, and Sunn and Acoustic are basically gone. Even with a push from this new Acoustic effort, and that would surprise me, I highly doubt 360's would be broadly favored to an SVT, which is a more versatile rig. And, regular club gig players have basically gone to smaller powerful equipment.

The 360 is still relevant and has some great sound, but the market just isn't there for it. IMO

Not to slide sideways here but speaking of a 4-15" that bit the dust. :smug:
This was my 1971 Kustom 200 w/4 Altec Lansings.

Sunn Model T is now the Fender 300 Pro and IMO kicks the SVT's butt with tone, but thats my opinion. SVT is a great amp mind you.

This thread looks like the world's longest April Fools joke I've ever seen!!

The Model T is a completely different amp.

The Bassman 300 Pro was sold for a while as a Sunn 300T, but this was well after Fender had acquired the Sunn brand. It's a Fender and always has been,

NOT to start anything......but, Period correct should make those JBL D-140's in the cabs. I had the same '71 set-up in a white sparkle, and before that (late 60's) had a single head and cab in black with CTS speakers. I guess they must have wiped out all the poor little Naugas for their hyde's... :p

As far as Acoustic goes: In the mid 70's I had a 370 with 2 Sunn folded horn cabs. Thundering, richer sounding, and more flexible (IMO) than the same period SVT or Sunn rigs.

Fact: Most club players these days want flexibility and portability - NOT the wall of sound many of us once enjoyed. There's a market for the 360's and 370's...albeit limited. Enough for someone to make them? I'd like to think so, because *I* would be in ;)

actually, while most Kustoms either had CTS or JBL (as an original upgrade) some Kustoms also came stock with Altecs.
there's a plate on the back of the upgraded cabs that either said JBL D140F, or Altec 421A on them. both of them used two 16 ohm speakers for a total cab impedance of 8 ohms so you could run two of them with a K200 head.
