the NEW bugera 3600 watt amp

From the Bugera BTX36000 User Manual:

Output power
Peak power, both channels driven__2 x 1950 W / 2 Ω
Peak power, both channels driven__2 x 1380 W / 4 Ω
Peak power, both channels driven__2 x 800 W / 8 Ω
Peak power, bridged mono___________3800 W / 4 Ω

EDIT: RMS = Peak/2

Peak wattage rating are bulls**t IMO.

And I played one and it it sounded... not bad but not OK either. Take in mind it was in a 6*10 eden cab.

Could do the trick for a teen who wants to impress friends and who doesn't know better...
 
I hardly use the 500 watts I have at my disposal, so I can't even begin to imagine how loud the 3600 watts is. Though companies have been known to exaggerate.

+1. I bridged my 1200-watt amp once for a big outdoor gig with very little PA support and got yelled at for being to loud. Otherwise I use one channel @400 Watts and still get asked to turn that thing down.

Would a usable volume on the Bugera be like halfway between 0 and 1?

Don't know. I have had great success using Behringer recording gear. But.. I have heard enough horror stories to worry me. I am thinking maybe I just got lucky.

:cool: You can only use that amp when you are not on the stage next to it :D

But hey, it reminds me of the rockband in 'The Hitchhikers Guide To the Galaxy' whose memebers play their instruments in a space ship in orbit around the planet where they are gigging ... we are almost there!

And by the way: Behringer gear for recording and PA is considered very decent so I wouldn't worry too much about that ...

just FWIW---- there is NO WAY to produce 3600 watts of output from *anything* plugged into a 15 amp outlet. not even for a millisecond (peak power). unless we are talking about a step-up transformer or something (not an instrument amplifier), and even then i am not sure how that would add up.
15A * 120 VAC = 1800 watts (from the wall). and while i am neither a scientist or an electrician, i am 99.99% certain that "continuous" draw needs to be at 80% or less of the circuit's maximum rating to be safe and reliable. wonder what the bugera says right next to the power plug socket?

I have found that I could play in metal bands with a hard hitting drummer with 300w with no issue.

...and never getting the volume past three or four. Get everything eq'ed right and you won't have to fight to be heard. :D

Truth! Finally!

Car audio companies do this all the time with their amplifiers. Even the bigger companies like Sony, Kenwood, and Pioneer do it. I'm at my store right now, looking at a car amplifier that says "800 Watts" on it. Actual RMS power? 250 Watts. But it gets even more crooked than that! Most of these manufacturers include a spec sheet where they test that particular amplifier to "prove" that it can put out what they say it can (RMS). A close examination of these specs reveals that almost EVERY SINGLE ONE of these companies runs their "tests" at 14.4 Volts. What's a car's electrical system operate at? 12 Volts. That works out to around a 20% loss in the real world. Clever, huh?

A peak power number is the most useless rating anyone could give, and seems to exist solely as a marketing tool to impress people who don't know any better.
