the NEW bugera 3600 watt amp

look at the other bass head they are making under the burgera band everyone of the screams ampeg the btx3600=svt4 the bvp=svt3 read the product description all of the preamp/eg stages are all from the svt3/4 series of amps. I know behringer copies everyones designs but really its like word for word style of preamps.

Output power
Peak power, both channels driven__2 x 1950 W / 2 Ω

I can see it now. Some band with a couple Marshall stacks, the bassist with this beast into 4 810's. They plug into a small club's electrical system, hit the first note, and blow every circuit breaker in the place. LMAO. I think Spinal Tap should do another movie demonstrating that phenomenon.

just FWIW---- there is NO WAY to produce 3600 watts of output from *anything* plugged into a 15 amp outlet. not even for a millisecond (peak power). unless we are talking about a step-up transformer or something (not an instrument amplifier), and even then i am not sure how that would add up.
15A * 120 VAC = 1800 watts (from the wall). and while i am neither a scientist or an electrician, i am 99.99% certain that "continuous" draw needs to be at 80% or less of the circuit's maximum rating to be safe and reliable. wonder what the bugera says right next to the power plug socket?

You are right. The maximum power you can draw from a 120 VAC socket giving 15A is 1800 watts. No step-up transformer will increase said power, as increasing the voltage leads to a proportional decrease in current, even if using a 100% efficient power transformer.

There are some ways to get around this. Since amplifiers do not put out their max power all the time, using large capacitors on DC to store power will allow the amp to temporarily go over the 1800W limit. Tube amps do this, if i am not wrong.

However, even if your amplifier ran at a full 1800 watts, that's still only the INPUT power. Few amplifiers are near 100% efficient, as you can tell from the heat they produce.

Alternatively most of the rest of the civilised world runs on 240 VAC, giving a total 3600W input power on 15A.
 
I have a Bugera 333XL all tube guitar amp. Its a Marshall at 1/4 the cost (I have the same head in a Marshall so its been compared A to B).

The Bugera's are Berhinger's new pro line. Most impressive are the instructions as they come in about 40 languages and the English one actually reads like an English PhD technical writer wrote it!

My son, who is an English PhD with a MA in Technical Writing, agrees (he's guitarist too); he usually plays off a 100 watt Marshall 2x12 combo (all tubes) and he says the Bugera 333XL is almost the same, except for the digital reverb on the Bugera.

Man... I feel stupid that I've been judging amps for so long based on such flawed criteria... Tone, power and reliability mean nothing when your amp isn't backed by a crack team of technical writers!

This is funny because im quite sure that i can use all the electrical things at my home at the same time consuming a lot more than 3600W...

Actually, it's a copy of this amp with reverb added. Most of the Bugera tube amps are exact copies of Peavey amps. The schematics are identical. They even copy the stuff they don't have to because they don't know what it does!
 
Wow, the front panel looks exactly like the ampeg b4r, and ditto the feature set. IMO, the wattage rating isn't really that important. Does this amplifier sound good, is it reliable, and does it put out enough wattage to power whatever cabinets you will be running with it, are more important questions. I'm sure it puts out enough wattage to run, say an 8x10, 2x15, a couple 4x10's, take your pick, and that's probably where most of us would be anyway.

My old SVT 4Pro claimed 1200 watts bridged mono. Did it put out that kind of wattage into my 8x10? I don't know, but it sure was loud enough for me. Will this amplifier put out 3600 watts under normal circumstances? Probably not, but who would ever use that much juice anyway, even with 2 8x10's. For $599, it probably couldn't hurt to give it a try with your particular setup. If it gives you the volume and tone your after, who cares about some inflated peak wattage rating. Just my 2 cents.

On another note, I really hate that logo! :rollno:
 
I have only been playing bass now for 47 years, so I must defer to those of you with more experience, but I have always found that when the english instructions to equipment have been written by someone illiterate in english, then the equipment is a a "Piece of #$%".

I have tried virtually every brand of equipment out there and there is good and bad.

I was playing on an Ampeg before most of you were born and my first one (a 1964 B-18 fliptop) was a "Piece of #$%". And most Fenders made outside the USA are cheap junk. But I play a Fender over an Ampeg.
