Thanks Jimmy,
Being that it's only 4 months old I'll let the warranty handle it. Besides as someone mentioned the resistor might have be fried.

Come to think about it there was a about a 3" hole in the box which makes me think the head might of had some rough treatment in the shipping of it.

So fellas, I'm thinking of getting a new amp. Either a svt2pro or a classic. I haven't played a 2 pro, other than the difference in the controls, how much different are they from a 2np? I like the graphic on mine so I'm not so sure about a cl. Thoughts?

The main difference is the 2 Pro has separate gain and master and the 2 NP has single volume, which a lot of folks like better. However, turning the master up all the way and using gain to control volume pretty much makes them all equal in my eyes. The 2 Pro also has a separate drive knob which some might find handy, but I never did.

With the CL or 2 Pro, you can just crank the gain to get overdrive at a lower volume. The 2 Pro has the option of using the drive knob, but honestly, it's not that much different from cranking gain. I might have liked it a little better, but not enough to deal with a rack-mounted SVT.

OK guys, I really dig this tons, I know its an old svt as that's all Nikki Sixx used and this was around 1981 or so. My question is, I can easily get this tone on my svt2, but I often use my GKs live (save tubes, different tone, easier to haul) so will a sansamp vtdi, which I want to get, get this tone. Also, will the svtcl get this? Nobody Knows What Its Like To Be Lonely- Unreleas…:

Jimmy, They received the head. I get a phone call with a message to call. I call and the tech says everything checks out. So I'm thinking I just wasted a hundred bucks to ship it. He calls me back later and says he put a load on it for awhile and it went into trouble mode. He then informs me it is a tube but I have to buy 6 (1 month out of warranty for tubes)and he still has to check out what might have blown it.
All Sweetwater has to offer for tubes are Groove Tubes. I really don't like them. I'm thinking Tung sols . Anyone else have any recommendations on tubes besides the high priced GE's?

An SVT-CL will easily get that sound. Turn master all the way up, use gain to control volume, and they behave and sound pretty much the same. A VTDI will also get a similar sound, although it's not going to sound quite as good as the real thing. But I'll give it up for the VT...for a totally SS device, it does a really good job at copping Ampeg vibe. Just started using my VT Deluxe again after not using it for a while, and while I use it more as an overdrive than a tone shaper, it does a pretty good job at tone shaping in an Ampeggy way.

I've only tried the JJ 6550's, and I can't complain about them even a little. Tung Sols are pretty well regarded from what I hear. But I'll tell you...you shouldn't have to buy more than 3 tubes when one goes out. Each triplet set biases separately, and you'll just be throwing away 3 good tubes on the other triplet set.
